Social whirling
My parents came over for dinner tonight, which was nice. I think my mom was craving some baby time, but didn't feel like making the drive by herself this week. It was a pleasant evening, with excellent soup (if I do say so myself) and leftover pasta salad, plus nice company. Miss E had herself a little screaming fit while they were on their way down, but she was finally asleep and in her bed when they arrived, and she slept most of the time they were here, much to their chagrin. Poor baby is in a fighting-sleep spell during the day, which is messing with her head and making her a bit whiny.
Two new tricks that are not so pleasant. One, she has started using her little hands to claw at my (or whoever's holding her) chest. She'll throw it up there as high as it goes and then creep it down towards her again, which has the effect of clawing, anyway. The problem (beyond the obvious irritation) is that my skin is very sensitive and I often break out from being scratched. The second thing is that when she gets bored with eating but isn't ready to give it up yet, she will clamp her jaws together as tightly as she can around my nipple and then yank her head away. Ouch. Please stop doing that, little missy, or you are grounded.
She has been grounded so many times that it's already lost its effect and the poor thing isn't quite seven weeks old yet. Oob.
More than making up for her two unpleasant new skills is that she is most definitely smiling on purpose now. I would totally post a picture of her grinning at my dad except it would involve finding the camera and transferring pictures, and I just do not have that much zim and vigor in me tonight. It would be a perfect fit right here, though.

Anyway.
Tomorrow, we have friends (J & A, where she is Swedish and he is not) coming over after dinner. That should be interesting. The baby is sometimes pretty cranky at night, so I hope that she behaves herself--they won't be here until after eight so I have no idea how this is going to turn out. They have a baby bird that has to be put to bed before they can leave. ;) I talked to her for an hour this afternoon--we have this tendency to Not Shut Up when we talk on the phone. Then on Saturday, I think (pending confirmation, hopefully tomorrow) that one of my friends from work and her husband are coming. Fun! Then on Sunday, we're going to go do the family thing. This is more social interaction than I have had since E was born and I had visitors in the hospital! Goodness. Four days in a row! ;) I know that doesn't sound like all that much but to an antisocial twerp like myself, it's a gigantic amount of social!
