birthday plan flop
Today is my mom's birthday, and I had been planning to drive up and spend it with her. Alas, this was prohibited by the weather--just light snow here this morning, but a pretty decent snow there. It's usually colder/winterier there than here. It wasn't entirely unexpected, though. Last year, I planned on going up for her birthday for my first trip alone with Evie, but we came down with an awful terrible stomach flu that ended up lasting for WEEKS. Days for me, weeks for her, that is. This year, it was the weather. I think that next year I shall not even make plans for it and save myself time.
I try to do crafty things with the kiddo upon occasion, with varying degrees of success. Today, I pulled out some string and some Cheerios, and we sat in the floor stringing together a Cheerio necklace. Oh, the fun she would have with this project! I think she possibly strung about six Cheerios and then she made me do the rest of it. At least she was happy while I was working on it though. I've been thinking about doing this for months, but my original plan was to put a little glue on the end of the thread and let it dry out first, thus turning the string into a natural needle and making it easier for her to string herself.. Apparently, taking that extra time was just too much effort for me, and so I never got around to it. Today, I just took the string and wrapped some Scotch tape around one end and that worked out okay... if not as elegant. Anyway. Many Cheerios were eaten, that's what it comes down to.
I don't usually feel too strongly about the winter weather but right now I am itching for a few warmer days. If it's above freezing, then I can live with it, but this whole 5-20 degree thing is just too much to ask of me.
