Oh, happy day.

I'm done! I'm done! I'm so happy! I've been working on this doily for months now. I haven't been tatting all that often in the last bit, what with the carpet and the novel and all that, but I almost finished it in the car this weekend. This afternoon, I finished it up, sewed the ends in, washed and soaked it (white string gets dirty when you carry it around with you for weeks and weeks) and then blocked it, which is a pain in the rear. (Blocking is pinning it all down so that it dries correctly.) Then there was the ironing and starching and scanning, and I'm bouncing all over the place with happiness over this. It's the largest project to date at a little over seven inches across (or eighteen centimeters.) Anne Orr refers to it as a small doily. Hmmph.



Now I get to do the fun part--decide what to do next. :) *bounce*

Oh my goodness that is soooo beautiful!! Of course it's a great effort and achievement and I knew it would look lovely, but when you look at the larger picture I had NO idea that it would be SO beautiful and intricate! Wow!!

I'm blown away! What a beautiful, delicate piece of work. I knew an old Greek lady at home that used to compulsively tat various things (even bedspreads!). I was always fascinated with her skill. hat doily is certainly something to be proud of.

I wonder that myself.. I certainly could never come up with the idea. But each stitch is really just a knot, and people have been making knots for a very long time, so I guess it isn't too far of a leap from that.

Thank you! :) I think "compulsively" is the right word to use for quite a lot of tatters.. it gets under your skin. Now I wish I could snoop through the old Greek lady's things. :)
