Sunday night

Okay, now I got all that off my chest. It felt too weird to write anything mundane after spewing forth.. ahh, crap, I'm being melodramatic again. Cut to current events.

We had a bit of fun at Mr. Gatti's today, even if the food sucked. Magnus and I played air hockey (and I kept losing, which I feel is hopelessly unfair) and other fun games. I won 12 beaded rings and a little flowery change purse. The rings, of course, will not be worn, they will be cut apart and added to my bead drawer. Well, if I had a bead drawer. Maybe a bead bowl. We also went to check out the cousin's computer.. it is desperately broken. (Probably power supply.) We don't think it's under warranty, but I bet my aunt will make them fix it anyway. She's the goddess of customer service.. she can get anyone to do anything for her in a setting like this.

I'm beginning to understand why [livejournal.com profile] totte thinks it's difficult to write a journal entry if I've posted something already. In this case, he's already written everything in the previous paragraph, and since I've already read it, I feel ridiculous writing about it again.

We actually had company tonight. Rae and Bart (cousin and her husband) came down for a few minutes. Rae wanted to borrow books (the Velvet series, by Jude Deveraux, and Her Daughter's Eyes (can't remember by who) and a movie (Ocean's Eleven). We so rarely get company. We often complain about this, but the truth is that we don't mind so much. *laugh* We're so anti-social. Visitors mean clean houses.. hehe.

It'll be very weird for M to be gone all day again.. it's funny how quickly you get used to that, isn't it? I have a bunch of little things that I need to catch up on, though (including comments), so I should be kinda busy tomorrow. We'll see how Tuesday through Friday goes...

That one by the AAC is always hopping - very family atmosphere. I've seen little kids playing pool with a serious expression... who can barely see over the edge of the table!

The other one... well, it is across the parking lot from First Street Liquors, so that that as you will. There are a lot of career hang-out guys. The owner is great - I come in often enough that he calls out to me and makes sure to say hello when I come in. Also, they have really nice pool tables there - they aren't "pay" tables although you pay by the hour.

Just an FYI, Tuesday is Ladies Night there - women play free. Woo hoo!!

That was kind of the feeling I had about them. Some of my family goes to the one by the AAC, and none of them have mentioned it being too horrible. The other one.. well, looks pretty seedy, so not too surprising to hear that it is. :) But you never know, maybe I'll have to go there on a Tuesday after all. :) I do wonder about the long-term prospects of these two places of staying in business, though.

While ADUC is shut down, I'd say they'll do okay.

The arcade by the AAC is owned by a Middle-Eastern couple, they used to own Lailaty's on Main Street. It was a Dairy Mart ages ago, and is now empty. I'd say the other place has a better chance (the seedier-but-still-fun) with all the First Street overflow. Ever buy liquor in there? Package liquor stores are bizarre...

Plus - and I think it is safe to say I'm not the only one - those paintings on the outside of the store freak me out. Which is worse?
1) A gun-toting moonshiner with eyes darting from side to side, proclaiming, "We got th' spirits." Or....
2) Several clown on a bench with a psychotic-looking dog/bear/creature.

I think both are poor choices. ;)

Indeed! The main reason I worry about the place by AAC is that none of the businesses that try to make it there ever last. ;) I don't seem to remember anything called Lailaty's, but there was a Dairy Mart long ago on the same end of Main Street as the AAC. It had its own parking lot.. close to the ex-Trevino's (I still mourn that place)/recently closed bakery? Or do you mean on the west end of town? Can't remember if that was actually called Dairy Mart. Oh well. I guess it doesn't really matter. :)

I haven't actually paid attention to the "art" on the wall on First Street, but I can certainly agree about the creepiness of what's painted on the other...
