I didn't know that Bill's Grill went out of business. He came into the store a month or two ago buying produce and talking to my dad. He said that business was slow because of college being out and he was beginning to think about really marketing it as a place to go for a good quick lunch, but he hadn't wanted to do that yet because of his other committments. (He catered at Guardian's at night for a long time.) Anyway, I've never been in there. No one I know in real life (ie, real Morehead citizens) has ever been in there. It's crazy to attempt to run a business in that location without changing the exterior and running a marketing campaign of some sort, even on a small scale. There have been so many places go in there that look exactly the same (they even keep the freakin' awning or replace it with one just like the one before) that no one ever even considers going there to eat anymore. Plus, the parking situation sucks. So. I don't know anything else about the place, but I didn't get the feeling that he was planning on being permanently out of business, but he might very well have changed his mind since then. I don't know. Like I said.. it's not like I've ever considered actually *going* there.
Boomerangs is another one of those crazy places. I haven't been there in three years--I will NOT go into a restaraunt to eat if I have to pay a cover charge, which is what was posted on the door the last time or two we tried to go there, and after that, it completely left the radar of places we could go eat. The family (who dines out a LOT) refused to go for the same reasons. And don't get me started on the music. We said all along they were shooting themselves in the foot with the bar thing. Given how empty they were during most nights and their current closed status, I believe we were right. I'm surprised they lasted this long, actually.
Cutter's is still open, and they're saying that they have no intentions of closing. Can't think of anyone else that's gone. Anyway, this was a MUCH longer rant than intended, but both of those places bugged the crap out of me with their short-sightedness. ;)
