Tuesday afternoon
Mar. 19th, 2002 04:40 pmOoops, didn't post yesterday. I had a valid reason, though. I started writing it, but it crashed. That happened a lot yesterday. Reboots were the number one special of the day, though.
So. Yesterday. We had the parents over for lunch, Just leftovers and grilled cheese, but we had to get rid of the rest of the lasagna. Then we waited impatiently on the cable guy. We were getting worried, although it was like 4 and he had another hour to show up, but he made it. Anyway, he fixed it, and it worked, and then he left. Then we spent an unreasonable amount of time breaking it again. :)
We were trying to get it to work with sharing the connection for both of us, and it never would work, and then we broke our network completely.. etc etc. Then we found that we couldn't even set it up with just one of us anymore.. it was a very long day. Finally, I went to bed and Magnus got a hold of tech support. They got it fixed to work for him for a while. And today, we got up determined to tackle the whole problem again, and finally said "Hey! Let's just go get a router!" That was generally what everyone recommended to begin with, but we had a hub LAN already that we didn't particularly want to just get rid of. Besides, they cost money and stuff. But, we finally gave in today and went out to YesConnect (I'm so pleased with my router that I'd almost link to them, but their website sucks so I won't.) and looked at routers. They only had one brand, which I hadn't heard of.. although really, I'd just done a little bit of research on routers in general. But anyway. We brought it home, set it up, and guess what? It worked immediately. I was actually pretty sure that I'd at least have to reinstall Windows, since I'd done some unethical things to my poor settings. :) Anyway. I didn't. Plugged it all in, started the computers, checked our IP addresses and changed a couple of easy settings.. and voila! I think they do deserve a link for getting it to work for us. D-Link. Yay!
So now we're going crazy playing with our new toys. Can't write more now, I have things to download. Muahahaa.
