Tuesday night
Jun. 18th, 2002 11:53 pmI've been so very busy this week that it's pathetic. I've accomplished more in two days than I typically might in a week. Also, it tends to be not so good for my journal keeping skills when this happens.
Yesterday, I cleaned. I spent an entire day in the kitchen and living room. The living room I just gave a normal cleaning.. dusting, vacuuming. The kitchen, however, got much more. It wasn't quite a spring cleaning in that.. I didn't take all the dishes down or rearrange the cabinets or anything like that. I did, however, finally get around to scraping paint off the trim at the top from when we painted the ceiling.. it had run in a few places and looked scraggly. I mopped.. and I don't mop, as a rule. It kills my back. My mommy is the same way, I think it's genetic. Anyway. I rearranged things.. that was the biggie. I cleaned off the two triangular shelves in the corner and put new stuff there. Pretties on the top shelf and cookbooks on the bottom (previously.. mostly junk, some pretties). (This also meant that there was now room for all the books in the living room.. it's been a problem lately.) I moved the juicer to the window and got rid of the lava lamp. Err, I didn't get rid of it, I moved it to the computer room. :) I rearranged magnets and took down the last of the "Hey, someone went on vacation and sent me a postcard!" postcards. I confess that this is really not a huge task, but worthy of mentioning because I broke the other bird magnet that Joe and Gloria gave us for the wedding. :( The other one broke soon after we moved in. Good thing is that there are double magnets, and they both are broken in the middle, so they look whole just by being stuck together on the fridge. Can't tell unless you try to move one. Anyway. I cleaned off the... greasy gunk buildup on top of the fridge and elsewhere, and in general cleaned the fridge off and put the copper pot there and nothing else visible. This is particularly good because it looked horrible hanging on the wall, and also it got dented on its way to the wedding (sucky!) but you can't see that at all where it is now. I moved the spice rack and cleared off the microwave and put the knive blocks there with the pretty candle that Lisa and Andy gave us. It looks sooo nice! I would like to do the cabinets, though. I just don't really want to actually *do* it. I want it done. We've come a long way since we first decided where to put what and what to keep, etc.. for one thing, I can cook now. This is an important factor.
Today, I drove to Aberdeen and met the parents, and we all went to the Cinci zoo. It was lots of fun. :) Just wish my hubby could have been there. It kind of depresses me, though, since they typically look bored and unhappy in captivity. But we all had a good time. Dad and I were ready to go slightly before Mom and Whitley.. about Whitley, let's just say I was tremendously relieved when we made it to the frog exhibit so she would stop talking about it.. whew! :) No, seriously. She was pretty good. :) I saw a jerky guy who was mean to his son (I have this feeling it was his stepson, for some reason.) to stop his own feelings of inadequacy and lack of capacity to accept blame. The guy drops his Coke and it spills, and so he turns around and says snidely "Geeeee, way to go, MIKE." and glares at him. Then he grabs up the cup and shakes it angrily in my general direction. I jump back to avoid getting beverage all over my pants. His wife is embarrased and apologizes to me, and he doesn't say a word to me about it. Son looks mortified and confused. Jerk mutters angrily about Mike elbowing him, and stomps off. I hate it when people are like that.. I'd already realized he was a jerk before this incident, cause we were sorta going through the exhibit at the same speed at that time, and he'd made other comments of a similar nature.
I have now seen three different supposed release dates for the new Counting Crows CD. Oh well. I guess I'll find it eventually. No *rush*.
It's now getting late and I'm kinda tired. And I ran out of online things to do. Oh! Got a balance refund check from a store credit card today! This was good as I had "call store" on my to do list... I got the balance statement on Saturday and it said that there was a $0 ending balance.. I'd returned merchandise and they insisted on putting it on my card, even though I paid cash for the merchandise.. people. If they'd given me my money like I requested (I'm not unreasonable.. I understand why they don't want to give cash refunds for credit card purchases, but i DID pay cash, as mentioned) There was a refund transaction for the merchandise amt, but I had not seen said refund. But it arrived today. Which was good. Also still annoying because the balance SAID that it was sent out on June 7. Kinda funny when you think about it.. how much more did this transaction cost them (postage, printing, handling, etc) than if they'd listened to me in the first place? *rolling eyes*
Night folks, I'm off to drag my hubby away from his silly flying game.
