Saturday night
Aug. 18th, 2002 12:24 amI can't believe I've put off writing all week. No, that's not quite true. I've started several entries and never went anywhere with them, and then forgot to post them before shutting the computer down at night. The sad truth is that I'm still stuck obsessively reading Wheel of Time. It's beginning to drive me batty. I don't have the inclination to do much of anything other than read during my free moments.. and I must confess that I've made a few extra free moments the past couple of weeks. I'm almost done with book six now.. three more. I'm beginning to consider a forced hiatus, as the condition is not improving on its own. How pathetic. The problem is just that it's so involving.. and more so this time than the other readings. I suppose it's coming together more, and being able to see more of what's going on behind the scenes and such after knowing how things turn out.. and the websites dedicated to the series really don't help my malady. I go looking for a particular answer (confirmation of my idea of who killed Asmodean, for example, which I might add that I was correct) and then spend an hour reading about say, when and how Moraine might return or whether Verin is good or bad (I'm for good, but mainly because I want her to be.)
How do I let myself get onto these subjects?
Anyway. Other than that, the week has been somewhat mundane. On Thursday, we suddenly started painting the ceiling in the living room. We've been talking about it for a year or so.. ever since we did the one in the kitchen. Years of smoke and dust and .. whatever .. had collected, along with scuff marks and stains (who knows? it was a rental property before). The reason that we'd been putting it off, though, was the complexity of the thing. See, the living room has a higher ceiling than the rest of the house. On one side, there's a lower section. The rest of the ceiling is split into four sections, with three beams (each containing about 2.5 inches of painted surface) running through, and a small strip of paint above the counter on the other side of the room. This is a LOT of taping and edge work, not to mention touch-up cleaning. Oh, and let's not forget the four essentially unmovable bookcases on two walls that need to be maneuvered around. Soooooo.. the point is just that we weren't looking forward to the task. Really didn't take as much time as we thought, though.. but it was an entire afternoon's work.
Also, Magnus spent the week not selling phones, due to the unbelievable stores not having phones or having broken computer systems. My techie geek hubby finally took apart their broken inventory tablet thing and fixed it on Friday so he could get the phones and get on with his job. *grin* Somehow I don't think that should be in his job description, do you?
Apparently my chickles is off house hunting this week in North Carolina.. I do hope they find something nice, and that all goes well with the move and stuff. I should be sending her a mail, as I've neglected that, due to the whole not being home thing. Dunno when she's coming back. Can't remember if she mentioned it.
Remember several months ago I was fretting about not having mailed a wedding present, at the end of April? The wedding was in March, for a couple of friends of ours from the mud, living in England now. Postage issues required me to send it in a 4-8 week time frame rather than 1 week.. so at the latest, they should have gotten it in June. A month and a half later from that at-the-latest date.. I still haven't received a word of it arriving. I haven't actually seen either of them online in quite some time.. actually, probably just before or after their wedding, at that, though I've seen in the logs of the mud that at least one of them makes a semi-regular appearance. So.. I'm not quite sure what to do about that. I can't even be sure that it got there, but I hate to ask, because I don't want to seem that I'm pushing for a thank you card or anything.. I was late with theirs, after all. On the other hand, they gave us ours in person and we thanked them profusely at the time. I just want to know that they got it, since we like them and all, and wanted them to have the thing (a picture frame, as it turns out) or we wouldn't have sent it... but I kind of expected an email or something. Argh.
Today we went to the parents to visit for a while, and Mom and Whitley and I had a bit of a slumber party. Mom tried to teach Whitley to braid (she claims she can braid, but actually, she likes to do twists), using my head for a model, and then Whitley spent a while turning my hair into a.. well, I don't know what. It was very pretty, I'm sure. *cough* Anyway, Mom french braided it on either side while Whitley painted my toenails, and then I did her makeup. It was really cute, though she had vexatingly little faith in me or my skills. :) It was fun. Went with the parents and Aunt Rita and Uncle Vaughn and Brad to Pasquale's.. have been mostly reading, of course, since we've been home. It really keeps coming back to that, doesn't it? :)
Yay! Precious seems to be writing in his journal for the first time since before we went to Sweden! *beam* And speaking of which, I feel like *I* have been writing this entry since before we went to Sweden, as well, so off I go. Night!
