Wednesday night
Jan. 22nd, 2003 10:53 pmToday has been about studying. I'm both working on my Swedish and my geography skills. I want to become what Magnus refers to as an interesting concept--an American who knows where countries are.. hehe. So my progress thus far is that I can do Europe, including all those countries in the east (which is what I didn't know before) and the provinces in Sweden. I realized that that's what I should really focus on.. Magnus doesn't even know those. I know that there's a serious potential of freaking someone out with that particular knowledge, as Magnus assures me that most Swedes can't do it. Hehe. Course, I can't SPELL all of them, but I certainly know where they are! I downloaded Seterra, and that's what I'm using to do this studying. I also have been having even more fun with Selingua Columns, which is a Tetris-like game involving blocks of words and you have to match them up to either themselves or their Swedish (or French or German or Spanish) translations. It's *really* helped my vocabulary, actually, which is pretty neat. And it's fun, besides. Magnus has been playing it on Difficult, even. Oh, and they're both freeware. Neat.
M. has officially begun his second mandolin now. He's out in the shop as we speak working on it. It's in the 20s right now and the shop isn't heated, so one might add that he's certifiably crazy.
I finally made an appointment to get my eyes checked, too! It's been much too long. I kept putting it off after we got married because we didn't have insurance and we're both cheap. In this case, M kept pushing me to just go on and get it over with, incidentally, but I made excuses not to. Anyway, we actually have insurance now (completely underrated, that) and since we're not sure how much longer we'll have it.. thought I might as well go. Oh! Something kind of neat! I paid the insurance bill a couple weeks ago, and today they sent me a check for $109 because, as it turns out, I'd already paid it! How ditzy do you have to be before you pay the same bill twice? Questions I lay awake at night worrying over..
