Friday night - Hurt
Feb. 1st, 2003 02:42 amWe happened to see the video for Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt (originally by Nine Inch Nails) tonight. I've been preoccupied with writing about it since, although a stupid computer crash lost my previous almost completed entry. Neither of us can believe how good it is. Words really aren't enough to describe it, but of course I'm going to try, as this is my journal and why else would I mention it in the first place?
I have never in my life seen any form of media that conveys a message as powerfully as this video does. His pain is a tangible thing, and it carries and reflects every hurt I've ever felt, too. The past is so alive, but yet it's just out of reach. Everything slips away from us eventually, even the people we think will always be there for us, even sometimes ourselves... and the horrible truth is that we lead ourselves to our own futures.. futures that themselves go by too quickly, until we're left with nothing else but the past. No one else can take away that pain, no one else can even know what someone feels on the inside. And at the same time, there's hope and moments of happiness that make it all worth it. It's heartbreaking and it's beautiful and I'm not doing it justice.
If you haven't seen it, then you should. Download here (32 mb) if you have broadband.
