Happy 4th of July!
Jul. 5th, 2003 01:26 amIt was a relatively good day, although we did not buy a VCR. This was in question for awhile, but WalMart had sold out of all but one model, and we decided that shopping around might be a good thing, as the only thing we really require in a VCR is that its record function works on channels above 13, which my eleven-year-old VCR does not. I guess we've kinda decided against buying a PAL-compatible VCR, as we can't stomach paying that much for the benefit of a very few movies. (He has a lot of them, but most of them we're not interested in watching again or have on DVD or is generally rentable or obtainable.) We also picked up our tickets to the Swedish singing thing at the Lake residence, and had Chinese for dinner. Magnus questioned if it was a political statement to eat Chinese on Independence Day, but we decided he was just a dork for thinking about it in the first place. ;)
The rest of the day was spent playing with pictures and going to see the fireworks. That was pretty nice, although I have to say that I don't enjoy them as much now that I keep thinking about how much money they're setting fire to and worrying over what they could have done with said money instead. Oh, well, it's not like I have any say in the matter, so might as well enjoy it, I guess. I meant to bring the camera with me, but I left it at home. Odds are high that I wouldn't have gotten any good pictures out of it anyway, though, so I can't regret it too much. It was hot but pleasant, although sitting on the ground that long wasn't good for my back.
There was also some sulking in the early afternoon for no apparent reason. I curled up on the couch and felt sorry for myself until Magnus came to look for me and make me stop pouting. He's annoyingly good at getting me out of a mood. He just kept singing "She's got freckles on her but she is nice.. and when she's in my arms it's paradise" over and over, with the occasional tickle and the threat of an indoors watergun fight. I talked him out of using it indoors, but he did fill it up to go water the plants on the porch. Boys are funny. I'm glad I have one.
