I'm sorry, I can't restrain myself from writing about this any longer. I didn't post the entry I wrote about civil liberties, although I actually lost sleep over it before deciding to let it go, so I'm going to get it out of my system this time. I'll try to keep it brief, though.

And also from CNN Money, an article about the new Harry Potter novel popping up on file-sharing sites. I just loved this paragraph.

"E-book rights are reserved to J.K. Rowling," agent Neil Blair told the Times. "So any Harry Potter novels on the Net are unauthorized. We also have an obligation to protect the children who might believe they are reading the official work."

An obligation to protect the children?! What kind of politically correct buzzphrase is this? Protect the children from reading something for free as opposed to shelling out $27 for it? I'm not at all disputing the fact that it's a copyright infringement, everyone should rush right out and purchase their own copy if they want to read it, ladadadada. But I hardly think that it's a matter of protecting the children. If you're so bloody interested in protecting the children, then perhaps you should join the search for a missing child, implement programs for at-risk kids, boost the anti-drug campaigns, kick Bush out of office (sorry, couldn't resist, still high-strung from the last entry) or something--anything--other than run around smacking people down for keeping a minimal amount of money, relatively speaking, from the publisher's hot little hands. Oh, wait, they don't even think that these copies floating around will impact the number sold.. *snicker* Pretentious dumbass.

*deep breath* As you might have noticed, I haven't been in the best of moods this evening. Nothing is really very wrong, I'm just tired and a little grumpy. I'm sick of fruit, sick of people, sick of people looking at fruit, sick of being polite to people complaining about fruit. And that's all I have to say about that. Other than that I'm also sick of doing a job any elementary school dropout could do while my actual skills just sit and ferment. Rofl. I just had the craziest mental image of a drunk website.

We also sell vegetables, btw. Vegetables is not a fun word. That's why I always refer to it as fruit. Just so you know. Vegetables remind me of veggies and.. oh, I don't even feel like getting into the concession business discussion tonight. Kinda miss it, though. Bet it contributed greatly to my shoulder problem, so it's just as well that they sold the deep fryers. I'm babbling and most of you won't have a clue what I'm talking about. Unless you happened to eat excellent fried veggies at a local festival. Limited chance of that.

The outpouring of random crap tonight is astonishing. I've been journaling for two hours. *pause* I just talked to my cousin Rae on the phone, and she made me laugh outrageously, so my mood has definitely taken a turn for the better. I'm sure you'll all be glad if I stop moping and griping. She told me one really hilarious thing and reminded me of another from earlier today. And we're going to have lunch tomorrow. :)

Her ex-husband was (and is) such a huge Metallica fan. He had a band, naturally, and they played music exactly like Metallica, among other such fandom activities. It was extreme. And extremely annoying, too, at that. It was enough to make me hate them even before the whole Napster thing. Anyway, apparently he won this big contest, which was a chance to spend a day and night with Metallica and do some sort of recording session. In other words, the culmination of a lifetime of obsession. And.... he didn't have the money to go. *ROFL* This would have made milk come out of my nose from excessive amounts of laughter had I been drinking milk. What a stupid sentence that was. Moving onwards now.

And another Devon story. Yesterday, he said he wanted some cinnamon toast, so his grandpa made him some. He had almost all of it eaten except for a little square. He looks at it and then says, "you know, I really don't need this much sugar." *laugh* The child is fueled chiefly by sugar and food coloring. It was so funny. What was less funny was that he also decided to go see his Papaw Brack (they live very close.. within walking distance even for an American). Alone. He also had to cross a road to get there. It's not a hugely busy road, but it's a winding country road that cars fly down, and also, the place he would cross is just over a little hill, so they couldn't even see him if he was in the road until it was too late. Argh.

Okay, enough already. I've written more than my share, but I'm definitely in a happier mood, so it seemed to work for me. Night night!

Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] paradisecowgirl!! *shmoo* Hope your big day is even better than the 40 days (and years) leading up to it!
