1. Who is your favorite singer/musician? Why?
Counting Crows, of course, starring Adam Duritz. There's something about the voice and the free style of the songs, and the heartfelt pain and meaning of all of the songs that I just adore.

2. What one singer/musician can you not stand? Why?
Oddly enough, I dislike Dave Mathews. It's been pointed out to me on numerous occasions that he is somewhat similar in style to Counting Crows, but he fails miserably in my opinion and just gets on my nerves.

3. If your favorite singer wasn't in the music business, do you think you would still like him/her as a person?
Not so much now as I might have in the past. I don't really have a thing for tortured souls anymore, and I think he would be an exhausting person to be around, not least of all because he doesn't seem to sleep. Several years of being a mud shrink to a certain someone's lost loves cured me of the belief that people want to be happy and can make a change in their lives. Eventually one gets tired of always being the one to fix someone.

4. Have you been to any concerts? If yes, who put on the best show?
None of theirs, no. I've been to a few, but we really don't get a lot of concerts here in Morehead. I saw Goo Goo Dolls.. no, we decided not to go, didn't we, chick? Hehe.. I saw Tracy Lawrence and BlackHawk and Jeff Foxworthy (if he counts.) and Tim McGraw. When I was younger, we went to see Keith Whitley (who might have been in concert with Hank Williams Jr, but I really might have made that up completely. I just remember Keith Whitley because of that whole related bit.) Oh, and cripes, I've seen a bunch of bluegrass people! Marty Stuart was there last year, and Allison Krauss and Ricky Skaggs were there before.. I won't go naming purely bluegrass bands as I suspect a limited number of you would recognize any of them. :) I think we had the most fun at the Tim McGraw concert.. golly, but that man can fill out a pair of jeans. :)

5. What are your thoughts on downloading free music online vs. purchasing albums? Do you feel the RIAA is right in its pursuit to stop people from dowloading free music?
No. I fully agree that people should purchase CDs, but I don't really think that the key problem here is people downloading music. I think that's more of a symptom than the actual disease. We have two bigger problems at work that are quite related. First, there's the recording studios, who're just bitching because they want to make a dollar. I don't begrudge them the right to make money. That's what everyone is in business for. I do begrudge them the right to act like total asswipes (to use a word that M and I are overusing at the moment). They keep talking about how the artists don't receive any money. First of all, I have a hard time feeling sorry for people who get no money when they have more money than I will ever see in my lifetime, but that's not the big issue here. The recording studios are screwing the artists out of more money than the consumers ever will and pretending that they're protecting the artists. This annoys me on principle, in addition to just annoying me.

The other part of the problem is the price of CDs. When CDs were new, they were magical. Now, any 12-year-old can burn a CD at home. It's lost the magic but the price hasn't reflected the advance in technology. Why would you pay $15 for something you can produce, in a hardware sense, for 20 cents? Has the value of the art changed? Besides that, I believe until the last few months, they were unable to prove that sales actually WERE down (if they actually are.. I stopped keeping up with it out of frustration), and well, we're in a recession, folks. It might be about something other than file sharing if the numbers ARE down.

One last note, though.. there has been a lot of emerging information about various artists due to this issue. I don't care if they want to disagree because that's their right to do so, but asswiping artists are even uglier than recording studios. As a direct result, I will never ever buy anything from Metallica. Hell, I downloaded crap I didn't even like after they threw their little prima donna tantrum.

Or I would have. If I was into the file sharing scene. Which, of course, for legal purposes, I am not. ;)
