I stumbled across this last night on one of my mailing lists. Free webhosting for three years, and $6/year domain names. It doesn't get cheaper than that. 1 and 1. You have to have a US phone number, though, to answer an automated message. 5 gigabytes of transfer, 500 MB of storage space. I've signed up and logged into the control panel, although I haven't set up a domain, and one of the ladies on the mailing list (for female web designers) has been using them for a couple of months, so it seems at least passably legitimate. No obligation after three years.. they don't even have my credit card number yet. So if you don't have a site because you don't want to pay for hosting, this might be for you.
I'm strongly considering buying a new domain name to use for stand-alone blogging and other things for just me. The perfect name hit me in the face this morning while drying my hair, but I'm not entirely sure if I should use it. It has a variant of bitch in the name and I'm not sure I want to use a word in my domain name that I try to refrain from using in polite company. It really is perfect, though. It would probably be worth six bucks a year for the email. Speaking of which, she sent me a link to possibly use for a featured spot at Mosaic Minds. Now I hope she doesn't get sore at me for sharing it prematurely.. shh, don't tell her. :) Fontify. Anyway, M and I thought it was great fun to spend our Friday evening creating a font of our own handwriting. Actually, I've done this before, back when I first got my tablet. The results were generally quite a lot better when doing it by hand than by using the site, but it was still a fun little project. Well, the first one I did in cursive didn't turn out as well, but it was still pretty cool. It does actually look like my handwriting except it's mostly illegible, which my handwriting is not. M's looks like he wrote it, but it's kind of shaky and irregular.
Looks like I cropped it a little off and gave it a green line.. ignore that, would ya? Anyway, great idea, not so great in practice. Fun, though!
M and I are going to watch a movie tonight so I'd better get settled into the living room now and steal the last cold Ale8 before he gets in there. :)
