The weather was absolutely dismal today and that prevented us from doing the family thing. Even my parents stayed home, and they normally are on the go regardless of the weather. It wasn't so much snow this time as frozen rain. I guess the term is actually freezing rain, but it was already frozen when it hit the house.. we could hear the tinkling sound, and if you ask me, freezing rain sounds like something that happens after it hits the ground. Clearly I'm no meteorologist, though. M claims sometimes that I'm more Swedish than he is in certain ways. I think this paragraph about the weather counts as one of those times. It wasn't even very good bad weather and still I'm talking about it. There's a 70% chance that I'm not going to stop in the next two sentences, either.

See, I'm just as reliable in my forecasts as the weather channel is.

I've started requesting strongly that M not check the weather forecast. He's obsessed with checking weather.com and complaining about how what they said yesterday is so much different than what they're saying today. He gets really into it, and he uses words that I shouldn't repeat. Apparently, I claimed to him that the weather here was nice year-round. *innocent smile* Well, anything to convince the guy to move, right? :)

We've been spending a lot of time with my parents in the last few days playing cards. We're winter Rook afficionados. I have never actually used that word in my entire life, I don't think, and I haven't the faintest clue if I spelled it right. Bear with me as I broaden my horizons right before your very eyes! Anyway. I know I've mentioned it before, like when we were in the tournament on New Year's Eve, but I don't know if I went into any detail. For lack of anything better to do, I'll ramble onward about that now. Rook is a card game played with a special deck of cards. It's vaguely similar to bridge, I believe, but since I don't know how to play bridge, I wouldn't really know. I think it's quite a bit more popular around here than in other areas of the state, or even the country, or even the world. I'm pulling this out of my .. err, hat, though, so I could be completely wrong. The popular variant of the game is called Kentucky Rook, though, so clearly there's some connection--although I didn't know that until I looked it up online. In any case, for some reason, we only play in the winter. (Another fleeting reference to weather.) It's very fun and I've been jonesing for it lately. I've played since I was quite young--young enough to cheat very badly and get caught miserably. You can decide for yourself whether I no longer cheat or whether I no longer cheat very badly. There is actually a point to this, believe it or not. I did a brief search last night and found Nate's Kentucky Rook game. It's kind of fun, although nothing like a real live game. If you actually do play the game, though, it's passable. Of course, your partner isn't too bright, which adds an interesting dimension to the game. ;) We've played it quite a bit, although M more so than me. Funny that we haven't really looked for a computer version before. Well, technically, I did before M moved because I wanted to explain what it was I was talking about, but It's kind of been a while since then.

The weather and card games tonight. Wow, that's some hapening stuff. Maybe tomorrow I'll write about my Metamucil purchases and shuffleboard. I don't even know what shuffleboard is, actually, although I have a picture in my head of the swinging geriatric crowd pushing a hockey puck around a hopscotch grid. I guess this is unlikely. Hopscotch. Man, what a stupid game that was. And why does it still sound fun even in retrospect?
