Completely random rambling
Feb. 3rd, 2004 01:15 amIt's such a pain to get everything back in working order after a Windows reinstallation. I was in desparate need of it, and everything is working better, so I guess it's worth it, but I am currently unreasonably annoyed at a relatively minor issue. I know in my mind that this is not something I should be upset by, but I can't help a small amount of rage. No, M and I have not been fighting, and there have been no family issues. The source of my immense displeasure is Notepad. You know. The default Windows text editor. (I bet no one knew that anyone had feelings one way or another for Notepad, did they?) I am actually channeling vast amounts of irritation over this. One of my standard post-installation tasks is ( if you find this boring, it's your own fault for looking. )
My husband has just informed me that he expects a gps device to be attached to his package (he ordered some tops for his mandolins from Orcas Island, which is off the northwest coast somewhere) so he can check its progress along the highway, any time, day or night. He wants satellite video feeds. Instead, he's getting the UPS version of diligence--a notice in their tracking system that they might have actually seen this package once six days ago. I think that would be a rockin' idea, actually. What is technology for if you can't have video cameras attached to trucks? M liked to worry me to death (hear the Kentucky coming through in that?) over it the last time he bought something from this guy--it takes a while to get from there to here, so I hope it hurries up just as much as he does.. but for very different reasons. He's so silly.
There were actually a couple of things going on today. My dad came over finally to look at the car. It's been broken for a month, so we've been limited to staying in town unless we wanted to borrow a vehicle from them, which has sucked. It's not that they mind lending us their vehicles, but they have a Cadillac and two trucks, so we end up paying a fortune for gas. :) Hmm.. maybe that was the plan, now that I think about it. Anyway. It was quickly decided that they couldn't really fix the problem themselves, so they took it off to a guy who can, and we'll hopefully have it in a week or so. One could wish that this decision was made four weeks ago, but hey, I guess it worked out alright so who am I to complain? On the other hand, that never stopped me before. Also, my cousin came over to pick up his computer* and play network games with M. They had such a hard time with it that you just had to feel sorry for them.. broken games, games stored in strange formats, games missing a cd, etc. They never did get it to work, really.
*I'm such a wuss--I went ahead and reinstalled stuff for him again. I wrote about it before, I'm sure--I spent hours fixing the darned thing when he said he wanted to upgrade from WinME. A few days later, he calls and says, "This is hard. Will you put WinME back on this for me?" Kadi says "umm, no." Brad says, "oh. okay, i'll do it. Several months go by before he starts asking if I'll do the upgrade again. I held out for a few months, but he knows how to work me--he asked twice in front of his mother. Ahh, the things we do to keep our family happy.
The other fun thing that happened today was that I finished the re-creation of
reebert's beautiful logo. (Briefly, the Mosaic Minds logo will be changing with the next issue, for those not involved with the thing.) I can't openly act too terribly excited about it since it's not my original idea or creation, but to tell the truth, I think I'm just as proud of it as she must be by now. *laugh* It was a lot of fun, though.. I do so love a project like that--I'm almost disappointed that I'm done. I'll show it to you sometime, but I feel like she should have the first rights to show it off since it does belong to her. :) And, of course, you'll see it when you all read next month's issue of MM on March 1, right?
