Day One of Blatt's Visit.
Apr. 9th, 2004 12:01 amI feel like I'm the one who got up at 3 am Swedish time today (9 pm last night, for those keeping track.) Tomas is here as scheduled, and he even managed to stay up until 11.. we didn't do much, just ate dinner (burgers) and watched TV. He was beginning to look a little bleary, so we fixed the room for sleep purposes and left him to his own devices. Now we're trying to remain kind of quiet. Our house really isn't designed for visitors much. We're both pretty tired, so we probably will go to bed as soon as Good Eats goes off.
We picked him up at the Cincinnati airport (which, I say again, is in Kentucky and not Ohio) and I was all sorts of nostalgic, both in good ways and bad. We waited at the top of the escalators, though, and that's where I waited the very very first time we met. The whole world stopped when he made it to the top and we hugged for an eternity in that shakey desparate bundle-of-nerves sort of way. I wonder if a few of you recognize that feeling? :) It feels like so long ago now, when I'm almost more comfortable with him by now than I am myself. I was so nervous then, though. I guess that's what I remember more than anything about that first visit.
We're planning on doing a bourbon distillery sometime this week (probably Labrot & Graham), and we have a few things to do around town. We may be gong to a great big flea market thing in Lucasville (Ohio) on Saturday, and we have an evening at Comedy off Broadway scheduled. Other than that, we have a few ideas (Natural Bridge, Keeneland, maybe even a couple of nights in Gatlinburg, for example) but nothing really set. If anyone else has any great ideas, though, I'd love to hear them. I guess this is a limited-market kind of question, since I think there are just a few of you familiar with the area. :)
Anyway, I guess it's pretty much time for me to get to bed. My eyes have been burning for hours, and there's no reason to force myself to stay awake! Looks like I would learn that. :)
