Stupid Song.
May. 23rd, 2004 10:50 pmI'm completely into lyrics. That's what I enjoy about music--the actual music is secondary. It's all about how the words fit together in the song. It also means that I get really really annoyed by some songs that would otherwise sound pretty good. I always have to worry about what it means. While the radio did its scanning thing tonight, a certain country song came on and now it's running through my head and driving me crazy. I believe it was pretty popular when it first came out, and I know several people who talked about how cute it was. Well, it's not. It's so stupid it makes my head hurt. I Wanna Talk About Me lyrics. You might want to read the lyrics so you'll be familiar with what I'm talking about here. Go on; I'll wait. [Pause.) Okay, read them? Cute, eh? He referred to menstruation in a song! And Muncie, Indiana, isn't that precious? NO--no, it's not. And do you know why this song sucks? It sucks on such a fundamentally basic level that I really don't think most people even notice it. So, Mr. Toby, I have the following to say to you:
This song sucks because you sing for four minutes about how you want to talk about yourself and you don't mention a single thing about yourself that you want to talk about! Dude! You talk about your girlfriend all the freaking time because she's the only one who has something to say! You made 55 references to yourself in this brief song--yes, I counted--and not once did you suggest a topic worthy of discussing. There was a brief mention of what you think, know or like, but you went into excrutiating detail on what your girlfriend talks about, so clearly you're more familiar with what she thinks than what you think. Let's face it. Neither one of you are very interesting people. Get over yourself and stop complaining about how much she talks--you're damned lucky that someone who's capable of conversation will date someone without a coherent thought in your head! Argh! (If I have ruined this song for you now, I apologize. I just wish it would get out of my head.)
Anyway. Yesterday, we worked on the house most of the day, but then Jenny and Andy came over in the evening. We went to Chili's and had a nice time--they brought us a very nice big plant as a housewarming present. Very sweet of them. :) I'm not sure what kind of flower it is, actually. I asked, and Andy assured me that it was a Kroger plant, but that was pretty much all we could narrow it down to. *laugh* In any case, it was quite fun. :) We went to my grandfather's house today--what was previously a thirty minute drive is now a two hour drive, so that's a little less fun. We've decided to get into books on tape (or cd, as the case might be) and that made the trip go much much faster, though. Lots of stuff going on but nothing much out of the ordinary. We headed home later than we had planned, though, and now it's past my bedtime and I don't feel like ending my weekend yet. Hopefully this week will be a little less stressful, though. At least I won't have to come home from work and worry about the mess in my house.. it's looking pretty good now. There are still boxes and lots of things to be done, but our life is mostly in order at last. Now if I could just sleep in a little longer in the mornings, I'd be all set. :)
