Paper woes

I love technology. The capability to come in from work and order a pizza online and have it at your door in twenty minutes is truly something that I don't understand how our ancestors could live without. I'm full but happy. I've started writing too early, though, so by the time I post this, it will probably be bed time and then I won't be full or happy. Ahh, well.

You know what totally proves I have it bad for M? I just sharpened all of his pencils. He's not even here to appreciate it, and he certainly didn't ask if I'd do it.. I just thought it would be nice. (and he has the best pencil sharpener in the entire world, but that part isn't sweet.)

I just used a font tag. I feel so dirty.

Anyway. M used to work for a life insurance company. It was the first job he had after he moved here. How to summarize the experience.. well, the biggest benefit that we got from this stint as an insurance salesman was that he put a lot of miles on the car with no financial gain. I'm actually being completely literal this time--it did amazing things for our tax return that year, but it didn't quite pay the bill. Bill is not plural on purpose--it didn't pay *a* bill at all, much less multiple bills. Anyway. The other major benefit of this job was that he ended up with a stack of letterhead, and I absolutely adore writing on it with a crisply sharpened pencil. It's heavy paper--expensive, from the looks of it. I've been hoarding this stuff for over three years now. M tried to throw it away once, which vaguely horrified me. I'm beginning to see the end of the stack, though, which makes me sad, and also a little depressed because I'm going to have to find heavy paper to replace it with, and buy it just to doodle on.

What was my point, anyway? Oh, right. Writing on the paper. I tend to make comprehensive to-do lists on it when I'm feeling overwhelmed or just have a lot of things to do. Right now, I just have a bunch of tiny little things to do that I keep forgetting about. There's just something so satisfying about a long, long list of things to do that are actually manageable.. I've crossed a quarter of one off already, and I'm still adding to the list. I've decided that I'm going to try to add one new section of content back to Mosaic Minds every day. There are actually twelve total sections to get done, so technically I've only accomplished one twelfth of the work, but I believe in making my to-do list as detailed as possible, and they fall into three categories, so that's the way I wrote it down.. much more satisfying that way. I have to watch myself or I'll end up with something like.
  • Go downstairs
  • Turn on light
  • Wash plates
  • Wash glasses
  • Wash silverware
  • Clean sink
  • Turn off light
  • Go back upstairs
Well, not quite, but almost.

Did I mention that I've been worried sick about a friend in Sweden? I'm pretty sure I wrote about it but I'm far too lazy to look up when that was. I dreamed that he died, and then I couldn't ever see him on ICQ for like two months. That's pretty unusual because we're both lurkers--nearly always connected, hardly ever talk to anyone, usually away from the keyboard anyway. Anyway, I talked to him this weekend, and he's doing well. Starting medical school rather out of the blue. I'm shipping a digital voice recorder to him since the company wouldn't ship to Sweden. Now I feel kind of guilty because it arrived yesterday and I still need to ship it up and label it and send it on its way. Not sure when I'm going to get that done.

Well, I guess I lied about not finishing this until bedtime. I'm pretty much out of stuff to say, and so I might as well post it now before I forget. M should be calling shortly for me to come pick him up. If those *#(&@*ing car people don't get off their @*$*@((#es and finish the $&#*! car, I'm going to *@)@*(#) @#& #%*@!!!
