Thursday Thoughts
Sep. 30th, 2004 07:08 pmWhy is it always the things that are only going to take two minutes the ones that you tear your hair out over for several hours? And why do I always do my very best thinking just after I click the "send" button? It was just one of those mornings, but my afternoon was pretty good, at least, and now I'm home and happy and tomorrow is Friday, so the world is pretty good. Relatively speaking. ;)
I got a card from my mommy today, saying she wished we could see each other more. I thought it was so sweet. I'm not saying that my mommy isn't normally sweet, because she often is, but sending cards is just not something she normally does. I guess that's why it meant a little more.
I mentioned health insurance last week, so I was thinking I should finish the story. Basically, Kentucky state employees pay more in insurance premiums than any other state's employees, and the state's contribution is less. Our new Republican governor decided that it would be a really swell idea to lower coverage while increasing costs. Basically, although we would be paying more next year, we would have no choice for which company we want and everything would be co-insurance instead of co-pay. It was fairly outrageous, although I won't go into details because it's extremely boring. It was pretty seriously sucky, anyway, and lots of people were mad. But Kentucky's lovely, lovely teachers put up more of a fight than anyone else and spent a day striking And as a result.. now they've decided to hold a special legislative session to try to sort it out and make health insurance a not-prohibitive cost. Who knows what the outcome will be, but if they change anything, it's bound to be better than now. He's blaming the Democrats, of course.. never mind the fact that he promised a thirty percent decrease in health insurance costs and delivered a whopping increase. The irony of the whole thing is that this special session is going to cost over half a million dollars. Wonder where the money for that comes from, since clearly there was no money for health insurance..
