Christmassy weekends are best
Dec. 17th, 2004 11:34 pmI just walked downstairs, gave M a kiss on the cheek and said thank you. He looked up in confusion and asked me why I was thanking him. "I opened that Amazon box by your desk. You're so sweet!"
I just love Christmas.
(No, I didn't actually open the Amazon box. Can't exactly do stuff like that when you have your own boxes stacked in a corner. I guess I wouldn't do it anyway because then there's no surprise, and I like surprise. Well, good surprise. Duh.)
So it's the final weekend before Christmas, and I'm nearly nearly done with my shopping. We're meeting my parents tomorrow in Lexington to do some final shopping.. M is whining like crazy because he hates traffic, and we're sure going to be in for it tomorrow. Hopefully we'll get everything done and can get out of there before too late in the day. Honestly, I'm not looking for it, but I can always hope. :)
We went to the movies tonight, which was the first time since, and this is actually embarrassing, The Return of the King last December. We're just not movie-goers, somehow. I think our problem is that we don't agree on many movies. M also gets freaked out by dumbchills.. you know, those awkward moments often found in sitcoms where.. for instance.. someone lies about something and then everyone reacts according to the lie until it all gets revealed in some terribly embarrasing way. I, on the other hand, LIKE comedy. Ahem. I mean, sometimes they take it too far and it does get embarrassing, but it doesn't bother me. He will get up and start pacing and leave the room when it happens even in a mild way. This seriously limits what movies he will agree to see.. we can't even rent movies most of the time.. and the matter is just compounded by the infrequency of the attempt.. by the time we agree to give it another try, there are like, ten movies each that we would like to see, but none of them coincide. So we just end up never watching anything much until we borrow it from someone or it comes out on cable.
Speaking of cable, I am really disturbed by the cable commercials here lately. They used to try to convince you that cable was better than satellite. Now, they try to convince you that cable is better than gravity or better than chocolate. WTF? It's so stupid.. it's as if they're admitting that cable really sucks, and the only reason you should get cable is if you're dumb enough to think irrelevant concepts and items are okay to compare with the product because competeting with the competitor.. dude, that's hard. Which, I guess it is if you're not really any better than your rival. I don't have FoodTV, after all, and I have cable. Not that I'm bitter. (Translation: I am so bitter that my eyes are twitching. I WANT ALTON BACK! I NEED my tv chefs, darnit.)
Oh, right. The movie. Ocean's Twelve. Not as good as the first one, but still cute. There were a few very nice plot twists, and one that I felt was quite.. pat. Can't say anything else than that because it's another one of those movies that will suck if you hear too much about it beforehand. Worth seeing.. I would take Catherine Zeta-Jones's haircut if I wasn't so enamored with my recent hairgrowth--it has behaved "long" for the first time in a long time.. still isn't, but it lays like it is. Besides, it wouldn't look like that on me so I might as well give it up.
I picked up my packages--of COURSE it was actually in two packages.. might as well pay extra shiping on both of them--this morning at break. Umm. Mapquest. I know that the joke isn't even very good, it's such a cliche to get bad directions from Mapquest, but seriously. Apparently, in some alternate reality.. one in which I did not learn to drive, turning right and driving 0.1 mile is EXACTLY THE SAME AS turning left and driving three miles. Incredible. But I found it, so all is right with the world. At least the world of postage.. let's not get carried away.
Oh, and I think I accidentally sent a card to a friend (rl) in Sweden with a 37 cent stamp on it. I figure I'll be getting that one back.. ahh, well. Friend never sends Christmas cards to us anyway, probably won't bother with fixing the postage. Merry Christmas everyone.....the holiday spirit is in the air...
I just love Christmas.
