I'm downstairs! Downstairs and writing in my journal! With the computer! Downstairs! On the couch! And watching Star Wars--really should be M*A*S*H for proper authenticity, but this will do in a pinch--still something that M is watching and I am providing company for. Erm, we are now watching Star Wars (V, btw)| in Spanish. I have no idea why. My boy is very silly. It seems to have a strange glitch whereby a name occasionally appears at the top of the screen. As far as we can tell, it's the subtitles to go with audio commentary by directors/etc, but there is no commentary. Gee, it looks cold there.

Anyway, back to downstairs. It feels rather nicely like home here, finally, because we got the spare computer (the one we pretentiously refer to as the server, fyi) set up downstairs. It looks really horrible, but the network cable was indeed long enough to stretch from upstairs. I guess eventually we'll need to cave in and go wireless, but when you happen to have a fifty foot network cable and you don't happen to have a wireless router/adaptor set up, well, then, ugly is good with me. I clearly care so much less about how my house looks than I should. I set up the network like this in November of last year, and most of my Nano book was written there. Most of the Mosaic Minds plans were hatched there, as far as my end went. I don't know what hit me so strongly about needing it done tonight, but I told M that I just wasn't going to be happy unless we tried the cable, and here we are. Star Wars and clicking keys.

Princess Leia has ugly ears.

I think I probably am not showing the properly nerdly appreciation for this movie, am I?

Okay, moving on. I have had a completely worthless day, which would be kind of nice had I enjoyed it a little more. I realized this morning, feeling sixteen times worse even than yesterday, that I was going to need to find a doctor..something we hadn't really done since the move. Someone at work had mentioned a clinic that accepted walk-ins, and the phone book showed (honestly, I didn't really expect this, but I was grateful) that they were open until noon on Saturdays. To my further surprise, we were in and out of there in less than an hour. I seem to have the flu or similar, and a nice prescription for antibiotics, and a warning that this is a particularly nasty kind of thing going around, and if left untreated, could linger for four to six weeks. M, who still has his cough from his bout with something just before Thanksgiving could have told me that. Anyway, I've felt pretty icky all day, but it's not too bad if I sit still. I'll stop whining now. Really.

M and I got into a lively discussion of the lyrical genius of Vanilla Ice today. I said, while playing Rummy with his new Spongebob Squarepants playing cards, for him to stop.. then followed up with "collaborate and listen". He, naturally, looked at me like I was crazy (such is life around here) and asked me wtf I was talking about. I then quoted the next ten lines or so of "Ice Ice Baby" which caused him to fall over on the couch and whine about the fates giving him a wife who can still quote Vanilla Ice. Then his attention was refocused on something specific that I had said. "Flow like a HARPOON?" he asked in utter disbelief. "A HARPOON?" He claimed that I had made it up, and further smirked at me when I said that even I could come up with a better analogy than that. "So first you make up lines to a Vanilla Ice song and THEN claim that you could do better?!" He seemed to think that was very funny. But I'd like to be the one to tell you folks that I didn't make it up. And I could do better. I mean, "levitate like a frigate".. that has quite a ring to it, for example.
