I finished cleaning up my desk tonight. I absolutely love a freshly-cleaned desk, but I don't often make the effort to keep it that way. (It is apparently important enough to me to have it on my to-do list--twice.) As it is right now, sitting here with a hint of orange Pledge in the air and a light breeze coming in through the open window just to my left, and the trees outside just turning green.. I really don't know what would be more important than maintaining this happy.

I just read a feature article for the upcoming issue of Mosaic Minds, and it has left me somewhat speechless. Sometimes, I am totally amazed by the sheer magnitude of what we started. I won't lie.. it's easy to get dejected and wonder if we're doing something worthwhile, and.. well. We are. I'm just saying.

M and I are funny about some things. We've been spending a lot of time recently on making the house look nicer. We're buying accessories, and throwing away piles of junk, and just generally working on our home life. Yesterday, the overhead lightbulb in the upstairs bathroom burnt out, so M replaced the bulb. It has a really generic and ugly cover on it.. you know the type. Square, opaque plastic with the requisite dark-yellow burnt center. Since it was dirty and filled with dried bugs (bet they regretted heading for that little sun, didn't they?) M filled it up with warm soapy water to let it soak before washing and putting back. During the next couple of hours, we kept going into the bathroom and then coming out to say "ooh, it looks so nice in there!" The cover changed the light to a sort of yellow glow.. without it, everything is brighter and fresher. So... well... yes, we washed the cover and stuck it under the cabinet. *blush* Here we are in the middle of making everything look nicer, so we decide that a bare light bulb in the bathroom is a good solution. We're not so smart sometimes.

Speaking of really nice, I think this is the happiest I've been with the layout of the computer room. Is it weird that I enjoy rearranging furniture so much? I used to switch my bedroom around every little bit when I lived at home, but when we lived in the trailer, we couldn't move furniture around so much, since we had more furniture than living space. Things just rather stayed where they would fit. One time, when we lived in Memphis, I undertook an impromptu furniture rearranging project without telling anyone. Oh, my, this was stupid. When I think about this now, it makes me almost reconsider ever having children because it is a perfect example of how a) dopey kids are and b) dangerous everything is. I had the frilly white and gold furniture set. (Yes, my bed had a canopy.) The desk had a top bookcase, and.. well, it wasn't one piece. Let's just say that the two pieces were not exactly put together in a permanent fashion. I did not know this. So, halfway across the room, the back falls off and goes crashing to the ground, making an ungodly noise. My parents come running. I am (somehow) unhurt, just probably hyperventilating a little. It caught the edge of my stereo but otherwise managed to cause no real damage--the plastic corner of the lid for the record player on top of the stereo chipped off. My parents did not beat me, but they probably should have. I never tried to move that desk by myself again, though.
