Sep. 27th, 2005 09:24 pmM works with nice people. You know how people will try to make you feel better in some way, say, for instance, about your age, and guess your age as five years younger than what they really think? Yeah. M had this discussion with some people at work a while back, and someone cheerily says, "Oh, you! You're not old! You couldn't be more than.. what? 38?" (M is, if you'll recall, 31.) Apparently they think that he looks well over a decade older than he is. I really don't see it myself. Today someone guessed 35.. so hey, closer.. except that they also mentioned that he looked younger than usual. Ha. I guess I find it funny mainly since I tend to have the opposite trouble, with people thinking I look young. It makes me wonder what people think about us when we're out and about in town, as disgustingly shmooey as we are. Or, maybe I don't want to know.
I had a brief moment of panic this morning when I got to work. I am the backup blog-minder this week for
carrieb as her other blog-minder is out of town and her loyal readers can't be left in suspense as to whether or not Thumper has arrived. Anyway, I sent her my cellphone, home phone and work number, just in case. When I arrived at work this morning, my phone showed two new calls, both at around 5:30 yesterday, and from an out-of-area-code number. Eeek, I thought, I was on the phone with my mom at that time! Have I failed at blogminding already, on my first day? Didn't she or Mike post yesterday? Why didn't she call my cell phone, or why did she call my work number after hours? Maybe she just got confused in the excitement of going into labor. Eeek eek eeek! Then, of course, Google helped me pinpoint the number as belonging to someone in North Carolina so I was able to breathe a sigh of relief. To be fair, it wouldn't have been entirely my fault or anything but I would still have felt bad for not being reachable. (As a sidenote, after a minute I realized that I had a voice mail from this number.. the phones at work changed a couple weeks ago so I didn't recognize it right away--no one leaves me voice mail--so I checked it and.. it was a fax. WTF? No one even knows how to get this fax. All I know about it is that it's five pages long. There was an option to print it but no one had any idea where or if it would print. I saved it and maybe one day I'll be able to see what it was. It's almost certain that it wasn't meant for me, in any case. I'm just curious. The funny thing is that I said just yesterday that I had never sent or received a fax, and whaddya know, the same day, someone sent me one. What are the odds? Especially considering that I don't have a fax machine?)
