Random things about houses, mainly
Nov. 6th, 2005 04:09 pmThings you should not do while looking for a house include stopping to look at a couple of open houses that are close to twice what that you're interested in paying. (Another thing is telling a realtor at an open house that no, you're not working with a realtor.) There's a new neighborhood we drove past this afternoon with houses named things like "The Lucy" and "The Ida" and such, and I will just say that Lucy kind of makes me think I might be gay. Kidding, of course, but seriously, it was extremely nice. And although we're probably looking at houses that are lower than what we could get a loan for if we pushed it.. it just ain't gonna happen. *sigh* Oh, well. When we're independently wealthy, that's soon enough.
There were really not that many interesting open houses this afternoon, but we went to one that we had seen while driving by two weeks ago. We were pretty well certain we wouldn't want to buy it, and we were right, but we also wanted to talk to the realtor who was there. We talked to him last year, and felt somewhat regretful that we already had a realtor. So now it seems we have our realtor anyway, and can actually go look at a few places other than open houses.
I am much too young to be thinking of mortgages and mowing my own lawn. Am quite freaked out about it but am coping with it by pretending that it's not actually going to happen. And hey, maybe it won't. Who can ever tell? But paying as much in rent as I would spend in a house payment.. that bites. (Well. Almost as much.)
I was kind of depressed this morning, but my glorious, wonderful, brilliant husband beat it out of me with persistence and silliness and a little dancing in the living room. Then he made me go look at houses, even though I was saying that there was hardly a need to go look at the available houses today, as they were obviously not something we would buy. But it's good that he pushed at me because it made me feel a lot better. We also went out for lunch at a Chinese buffet type restaurant, and M, as usual, paid with a credit card. When he got home, he looked at the receipt, and instead of $16, they had run it up as $6. Oops. Cheap lunch for two people, though! (Though I'm not forgetting that they could just as easily have typed in $116 as just $6.
Yesterday--and this is probably how life is for other people but not me--I actually went to bed immediately upon returning home without even checking email and friends and stuff. The day was nice, but long, and I was so tired that I couldn't keep my eyes open any more. The shower was good, although somewhat dull in that baby shower sort of way, and then we had fun with J&A. Really nothing much worth bothering with telling, though.
This weekend is clearly defective as it was much shorter than usual. Should probably exchange it for another one now.
