We just got back from WalMart, where we bought PAINT! I doubt anyone has any idea how exciting this is, but we've wanted to paint walls ever since we got married. We had a bit of an unhealthy obsession with HGTV. (Home and Garden television.) The first project is the computer room, which I think I've mentioned recently, and Friday is officially Date Paint Night. (I'm not really sure why I'm calling it Date Paint Night except that it rhymes and us smug marrieds must pretend occasionally that we still have dates.) Tomorrow, we're masking and dealing with nail holes and stuff and possibly painting the ceiling. We have plans that do not involve housework on Saturday (gasp!) and then Sunday, we might or might not be doing crown molding. I love crown molding. It makes me happy.

Right now I am sitting here staring at the almost-invisible signs that there is wallpaper under the paint in this room. I agree with M in that this is not the time to try to tear down wallpaper that doesn't look bad, but I am kind of having perfectionist tendencies with this whole house thing. I need to learn to get over it to some degree. You really can't tell without looking closely, either, which makes it better.. there's just a seam beside my desk.

The reason that we went out to Walmart tonight was that we had to find food. I had a bit of a cooking failure and when food fails, I refuse to cook anything else that night. I was making a mexican stew over rice, and I accidentally added Way Too Many hot peppers. I know, how stupid can you be, but.. oh well. I really, really like very spicy foods, but this was just fire and death and not much else.. completely inedible. I tasted of the sauce half a dozen times, tiny sips, and have had heartburn all night just thinking about it. It was $12.50 worth of beef (over three pounds, as I am firmly committed to cooking larger meals and freezing stuff these days) so there was no way that I could call the whole thing a failure. So.. we strained the beef out, removed most of the floating peppers, reserved about four large spoonfuls of the Sauce of Destructification for flavor, and tomorrow I'll add more tomato sauce and essentially start over.

Is it a house blog or is it a food blog? Why, neither, it's RANDOM GIRL BLOG! Now with CAPS! Whee!

I guess I didn't mention what we decided about color. We had originally decided on an off-white. While eating dinner, we dithered back to pure white, as I forced M to convince me about the color we had picked out again. (This wasn't really because I disagreed with it suddenly, but I am high-maintenance about making decisions and relieving my decision anxiety is one of M's primary duties as my husband.) Anyway, when we got to WalMart, we settled on a light tan-type color called Cottonwood. We're a little boring like that. We used to want bright, vibrant colors, and now that we have a house we're going with total neutrals. I think that the house hunting helped with that, really.

Anyway. I have another hour before bed, but I intend to spend at least some of it in front of the television with a book (one of my quirks.. even when I watch TV I can't watch TV) and some cookie dough ice cream low-fat, low-calorie healthy snacks. Better get a move on!
