Once upon a time, a man took his young granddaughter on a drive. They drove around town, and he took her by several small white houses that he had lived in with her grandmother when they were first married. The houses were by then old and worn--nothing like the solid brick house that he lived in then. And he thought that she was interested and excited in seeing these houses, because he was sharing a part of his history with her. That is, he thought she was interested until she turns to him and says, "Papaw, didn't you have any work at all?"
And now, over twenty years later, I still hear all about the time I snarked on the finances of my grandparents. I don't remember if I've told that story before, but it's one of M's favorites. He likes to add that I am just as hateful now as I was then.
Today was a pretty nice day. We went family-visiting, and spent a lot of time with my parents, and then visited with my other grandparents (where I was reminded yet again of the above story.) The day was unusually pleasant. I love my family, and I like spending time with them, but it can get so loud and so chaotic that I go a little nuts.
I was just in the middle of a sentence about how we were having severe thunderstorms and stuff, so I should go unplug the computer, when fazaam, bye bye electricity. Luckily, it came back on immediately, but we kept them off for a while (which allowed me to fold all the laundry I did yesterday, and put most of it away.) It seems to be gone now, which means that M can finally go to bed. He can't sleep when the weather is doing its freaky thing. Poor boy, he just can't wrap his head around the unpredictable weather here. With thunderstorms! And hail! And tornadoes!
Also, I hate daylight savings time. Yuck.
