things about today
May. 15th, 2006 10:52 pmI am very excited about doing my civic duty tomorrow. I haven't the faintest idea who is running for what, but I'm sure as heck going to vote for them. M told me, in somewhat graphic language, that I am just like a man--I'm all about the ladies. He's right, though. If all else fails, I vote for the wenches. Oh, and did I mention that we get four hours off work to go vote? And I vote at a place that is within walking distance even by American standards.. which isn't to say that I'll be walking down there in the morning, of course. Things just aren't set up for walking here, and it would totally ruin my day to get run over. But Election Day means that I get to stay up late, so I am a happy camper.. whoever it is that I end up voting for.
I had a pretty good day at work today, which included a long lunch and an early (by eight minutes, but still) departure. I had pie* and a yummy dinner (mmm, yes, in that order) and then the boy and I ran off to Lowe's and Walmart and spent a gazillion dollars. I was on the phone with M this afternoon when I remembered that I had totally forgotten to plant the rosemary that I bought over a week ago! It was still in a plastic bag in the garage! I figured that I had killed it already, but it actually was looking just fine. M promised to plant it for me when he got home, and so while I was fixing dinner, he started outside. We had been planning to put it on the side of the house, but I caught him just as he was heading out to tell him to plant it in the flowerbed area by the back porch. It was full of nasty, ugly weeds and sticks, but it's the perfect place for herbs, being close to the kitchen and all. So, boyo got excited, and the dirt turned out to be quite lovely after it had been cleaned up, so I gave him my listless potted oregano and basil (the oregano doesn't have much of a chance because it never came up properly but there's some hope for the basil, I think) to stick in the ground. Then we got really excited about yardwork again and had to rush to the store to buy plants. We bought dill and parsley and chives and a few random fruits/vegetables. My in-laws sent birthday money, earmarked for some peace roses. So, we bought two of those, too.
We are rather dumb, really, considering that we haven't yet managed to get a handle on the things we already have in our yard, and here we are buying more plants. Having a house is fun.
Sorry,
stewlis, but I might as well tell you that it was Actual Shoney's French Silk pie that I had. I have a WHOLE PIE (minus the eaten parts) in my fridge right now. My mom won it in a silent auction on Saturday, and she gave it to me as my birthday pie. I brought home the leftovers after sharing with my family last night. Yum!
