I saved us $2,048 today. Sorta. See, the air conditioner woke us up last weekend with a terrible howling noise, and afterward, it forgot that it was supposed to blow cold air. It's been rainy and chilly this week, so it wasn't that hard to forget about it, but since it's supposed to be warm again next week, M got a bug in his bonnet about getting it looked at. (I think he has too much free time during his lunch break, as he has one hour and eats in eight minutes, and works in a town with a K-Mart, a Kroger, a flea market and.. yeah, that's about it. Too much time to think of things to get worked up about*.) So he called a repair shop, and they set up an appointment to come out and look at it at four. Which was nice and all except that M couldn't leave work early, so I got to leave early instead.

(Which is nice and all but it was only like 45 minutes early and almost all of it was spent feeling vaguely uncomfortable talking to a stranger but okay.)

Anyway, because I am a nasty brat, I called M after the guy left and said, "$2100." I made sure to sound pissy. M begins asking me questions about whether or not repair was an option or if it had to be replaced entirely, and I said that we had to get a new one. He sounded depressed, and I giggled (see above, re: nasty brat) and said, "OR maybe it cost $42 and works just fine. Either way." It was (most likely) a breaker issue, and if we ultimately need to get it fixed, it might cost about $80.

Therefore! M had already been expecting to need to replace or do expensive repairs to the a/c, then I gave him a dollar figure, and so now we are RICH. Or at least we are rich enough that we should go shopping for purses and computer parts for me! Eh. Well, yeah. Still, pretty nice to have successfully dodged a major expense.

I don't much like talking about television shows but I did watch the last Will & Grace tonight, and I just have to say.. bah, humbug. Although one part did make me sob. I am such a sucker. It really wasn't as good as I expected, though.

Also, thank you all so much for your niceness to the last post. I appreciated it so, so much.

*I can say this because it turned out okay. If we were without a/c when it was mildly warm and uncomfortable, I would be crying a different tune because I am the biggest wuss you will ever meet about having no a/c.
