Victory!

Yesterday, due to the unquenchable patriotism of Kentucky's state government which allows all of its state employees to have four hours off to go vote, I spent the better part of the afternoon doing paperwork. I could point out that I actually voted on my way to work in the morning, too. And that my voting place is a church which is maybe a quarter of a mile away. But I won't, because I loves me some Election Day time off. Anyway, I have had papers piling up on my desk for weeks. I have been lax about updating the anal budget spreadsheet that I started back in July, so receipts were everywhere, and there were other piles that needed to be filed. (That pile, by the way, is now laying on top of the filing cabinet in the closet. It's a start...) I also had a few phone calls to make, so I basically spent all afternoon working on those types of things and trying to cross a bunch of administrative stuff off my to-do list.

The first task on my list has been on there for a month and a half, and mainly because I got annoyed with it and didn't want to think about it anymore. Remember I talked about my hosting company disabling a domain because I was getting a million spams a day to fake addresses? [livejournal.com profile] kapuhi advised me to wait them out, basically, and I was irritated with them so I never did email them back. So, yesterday, I sent a slightly bitchy email about the situation, and explained that I was not that upset over the disabling because I understood that it wasn't really their fault--but that I was disappointed in the customer service I had received. I went on to ask how the investigation was progressing, as they had said they'd continue looking into it, and if they would consider re-enabling my domain to see if it was even still a problem. (Even evil spammers don't want to have a million emails bounced back at them, after all.) And.. much to my surprise, they had answered today, apologized for the inconvenience, and turned the domain back on. It'll take a bit to become active again, but hey! Great! Keep your fingers crossed that it'll work now, because otherwise, they'll disable it again. Bleh.

I was feeling all smug yesterday when I did the budget, and came up with our final total in savings, because after I was done, M told me that he had just gotten paid, with his monthly commissions check (it's about two-thirds of a regular paycheck. They don't do real commissions, just bonuses.) That made me realize that I didn't remember taking his check to the bank last week.. I usually do that on Wednesday morning break. So, three paychecks added to what I thought was an acceptable total--that was a nice surprise!

And in a related story, after last week's little issue with my car where my parents came down to help us fix it, I took off in it the next day to go to work. M stood in the door to watch me go, and had emailed me by the time I got to work to tell me that it was making a noise that he didn't like, and he would stop by to pick it up on his way to work because he didn't want me driving it. So, I've been driving his car, back and forth to my job which is six minutes from my house. He has been driving my car back and forth to the neighboring town, which takes about 25 minutes. He called a place there in the town where he works and scheduled a time for today to have the noise, and the leaking radiator, looked at. This morning, the guy called to let him know that our transmission? Has a really, really broken thing in it, and he would strongly recommend that the car not be driven another foot until it's fixed. The part that's broken is fairly inexpensive, that's the good news. The bad news is that it's going to take him about TEN HOURS to fix. Bloody fucking hell. Pardon the expression. So, that's going to cost a thousand million dollars, and once again, all the good happy I built up by finding three extra paychecks to add in to the budget? Gone, gone, gone. Bah, humbug. Why does that always happen? And furthermore, what the heck is wrong with our cars lately? We had M's car in for service a couple of weeks ago, then my car broke last week, and was fixed only to find out that it is really, really broken, and on Sunday, there was a flat on M's car that turned out to be completely beyond repair, so we had to get a new tire, too. If we did what we should, we'd get rid of my car and buy a new one, but it's SO NICE. Except maybe that it is not physically possible to park it, it's a lovely, lovely car to drive.

My husband just told me that it makes him feel warm and fuzzy when I say bloody fucking hell. I married a real weirdo.
