Productivity Weekend
Nov. 19th, 2006 07:08 pmWe have been so busy this weekend that we've barely even had time to sit down, and yet.. I tried to tell my dad tonight what we'd been doing and couldn't really describe it. M raked some yesterday until his hands blistered, and then he ran cables up in the attic--this involved the purchasing of a ladder, which has been on our to-do list for ages--to put our television/receiver/dvd player together in the built-in bookcase in the living room. We actually have the couch in front of the fireplace permanently for the first time since we moved in. The TV looks kind of weird, at an angle in front of one set of bookcases, but you can't have everything... in this case, what we can't immediately have is a plasma television hung over the fireplace because we have too much else to spend money on when our normal TV works just fine. It was just too cold to leave it in the sunroom. We were never out there, and it was also kind of creepy at night because we never put the blinds up so it was like being outside, but in a fish bowl.
Meanwhile, I spent hours on paperwork, took care of the laundry, and we both cleaned the house today. And.. a whole bunch of other really important stuff that I can't remember. M even cleaned his desk, and by the way, most of that stuff from that post was still on his desk, same as last year. It looks nice, now, and not so much like it's going to collapse under its own weight. I carefully pointed out that he could possibly put some of that stuff that he never uses in the closet, so it's readily accessible but not so cluttered. He even threw some stuff away! It's a miracle.
(Umm, yes. We are expecting company next month, how did you guess? It's a friend of M's from his last horrible job, and his wife. We went to their wedding in May. And, it really has nothing to do with them coming except that we apparently cannot get a single thing done around the house unless we have people coming over. Please. In January or so, could you please schedule a visit, or at least pretend to schedule a visit, so we have an excuse to actually get some more stuff done around here?)
That's pretty much all that's new. We did go out for dinner last night for our anniversary, and we made our big celebratory meal for dinner tonight (garlic chicken and parmesan potatoes). We have watched FoodTV a whole lot.
I intend for our Christmas tree to go up this week, on Friday, which is another reason we wanted to get the house in order. That's insane! Where has this year gone? I have barely started doing any Christmas shopping. That's not unusual, actually, because I never do it early, but I always start wishing that I did at about this time. Every year I think I'm going to order a bunch of stuff online and then yet, I never do. Maybe this year... Or maybe I'll just talk about it, as usual, and then run around WalMart like a chicken with its head cut off saying "I don't know, do you think we could buy THIS for her? Or maybe THAT? I DON'T KNOW." I hate not knowing what to buy people.
