Re-planned day off
Feb. 15th, 2007 12:35 pmI had a doctor appointment this morning (25w5d). I got to drink the nasty Glucola blood sugar drink beforehand, and they drew the blood. I can call in a couple of days to find out my results, or they'll be calling me if it's bad, from what I understand. No particular reason to think that I'll end up getting gestational diabetes except that diabetes runs heavily in my family, I am insulin resistant, and I am afraid of everything coming and going. But, I seem to be getting off pretty easily with pregnancy so far (although, please don't make me regret saying that) so I'm expecting it to be fine. Trying something new and thinking positive. :) See, I told you I wouldn't freak out over everything forever. The heart rate was 158, and sounding good. I'm measuring "great" and my blood pressure was 110/72, which.. what the heck? That's great! But also lower than it was before I was pregnant, and certainly much lower than it was three weeks ago. She did look concerned when I told her about my recent high blood pressure episodes and agreed that I should keep an eye on it, but with readings like today, I don't think she was ready to get worked up about it yet. My next appointment is in four more weeks, but after that, I'll be going every two weeks. Eek! I'm getting close to the end! I need to go decorate something!
We have a utility guy coming out this afternoon, which I mentioned before--it was going to require me to take the whole day off to be here, since there isn't much point in going in for a couple of hours between appointments. M, however, is still sick, so we decided that he should take the whole day off anyway, and be here for the guy. So, my plan was to go in at noon today (I gave myself an hour to relax, and have some lunch because I mostly skipped breakfast this morning--a single piece of toast does not count as breakfast when one is six months pregnant.) But, the other part of the story is that M needs to go to the doctor, and we couldn't schedule it in advance because my clinic is notorious for keeping us forever, so we didn't know if a certain time would be okay. We were hoping they'd say, "sure, can you be here in fifteen minutes?" like they did when I called last week. They didn't do too badly, but they did say one o'clock, so I have to be here for the utility guy again... and is it really worth it to go in for two hours once M gets back? Hardly.
Guess why M is going to the doctor! Wouldn't you think it's because he's sick, as he missed work because he's sick? But, no. He's going because back in the fall, he smacked his right index finger against his leg somehow, it popped like crazy, and it has been hurting ever since. It also doesn't bend properly anymore. He will also be asking them about his illness, but the main reason he's going is the finger. He just doesn't have much time for doctor appointments, normally, since he works at a different kind of place than I do, so he took the opportunity to go while he was off. (That's also why it's pretty sweet that he makes a considerable effort to be at my appointments with me. They're not really that fond of that. He also doesn't get paid, so I'm not too fond of it either. Ha.)
I am in nesting mode, apparently, although in a semi-virtual sense. I have been back on my budgeting kick, which started last summer but was neglected in the haze of fall. We set actual budget amounts for categories last night, instead of just making stuff up and ignoring the bottom line. Did you know that it is impossible to budget for a category like "baby" when one does not actually have a baby? We got to that line and started throwing out completely absurd monthly numbers. Ten dollars! A thousand dollars! Six hundred dollars! At this point we don't even know what items will go into that category so it's just impossible to tell. Diapers? Hoping that I won't be buying diapers every week. Wipes? Same as diapers (just.. if I'm doing the nasty laundry anyway, what's the point?) Formula? REALLY hoping that one doesn't get added to the budget. Toys, clothes, thermometers, soap and nail clippers? Yeah, but it also depends on what we get for the shower--if I don't know about it in advance and need to buy it later, then I still can't budget for it. Also, my mommy can't stop buying clothes so that should help bring the costs down. ;) On Tuesday she bought a dress for NEXT FALL, as in 2008, for one thing. Her only other grandchild is almost twelve--she's had to wait a long while for this so it's going to her head. I was teasing her about how much fun she was having with this, and she agreed that it was fun but also becoming a financial burden. *laugh* Lord, this is fun. That actually isn't sarcasm. I do adore having something like this to micro-plan, even when I am fully aware (you can laugh at me all you want but I really do know this) that things will not be at all what I expect.
Meanwhile, the ducky is having the busiest day possibly ever. It's insane. But sweet. :) M has thought on a couple of occasions that I am faking it. What the heck do they DO in there, anyway? There's not a chance that this baby will sleep for the first six years, is there?
