same_sky: (ducky the girl)
Hi, guess what? It's April, and we're having a baby NEXT MONTH. Argh. That makes it sound so very much soon. I think the official count is 55 days (until the due date, of course). Less than eight weeks. Wow. M forbid me months ago from making an April Fools joke regarding the baby... not that I would have. I might have thought of it if I had been due next week or so, but it's too early to be funny. When I was in second grade or so, I got really annoyed with one of my best friends who was always telling me something outrageous and completely untrue, so I decided that I would tell HER that I had a dire and deadly disease of some sort. Kids make a lot of sense sometimes, because I remember that being a perfectly sensible reaction. My mom nipped that one in the bud real quick-like, and said that if we tell people things like that, they might come true. (Not her exact wording but it's what I took away from the conversation. I'm not entirely sure that's what she meant to happen, now that I think about it.) So, I have always been afraid of making jokes about things I really don't want to happen. I'm letting M think that his was the deciding factor, though. Boys like to think that they're in charge sometimes. Too bad he reads this, huh?

My belly is kind of numb around my belly button. I am assuming this is because the baby is on a nerve or something, but Google kind of let me down when I searched for it. I'm not supposed to worry, am I? It's kind of annoying but I'll live. My belly button is still clinging to the notion of being an innie, but I can move my belly to watch it pop. It grosses M out, which is why I have to do it. I hope it stays more or less inside. Seriously, you would not believe how high I am carrying this child. She kicks my bra line in the center when she gets bored. I asked the doctor on Friday if she could tell me what position the baby was in. She ran her hands around my belly and declared that she is.. mainly just really high, so she couldn't tell. She also offered to check my cervix for the second appointment in a row, but I declined again. I rather enjoy doctor visits where I can keep my pants on. And speaking of my cervix, Ducky darling sweetie cakes honey child, please stay off mine. That is not a toy for baby. Thanks.

I finished the last two basket liners this afternoon. Yay for progress! I edited my post yesterday to create a link to a picture of the first basket, but in case you read it before that, you can see what they look like here... same picture as yesterday. When we first started getting stuff together, we kept saying that we didn't need everything to be all pink and frilly, and we have totally caved to the pink pressure. There are pink hearts there in that white lace. Yikes.

We were up pretty early this morning, and we ventured out to do some shopping. A new milestone of sorts for the day--I was officially unable to wear my wedding rings due to swollen fingers--it was tight when I put them on this morning, so I decided not to risk it. (I just started taking the wedding band off at night in the last few weeks.) I put them on a chain around my neck, because I felt naked going out without them, but then when I got home and took them off the chain, guess what I did? If you guessed "tried them on to see if they fit", then you win a prize! I am such a moron. It was very tight, but I got them back off again. I don't know how I would have lived with my own stupidity if I had actually managed to get them stuck AFTER I couldn't wear them out and then brought them home and tried them on. Hopefully the swelling will go down again. Maybe. Also, we bought the baby's coming home outfit, which is intensely cute. M and I don't really agree on what makes an outfit cute, but we both agreed on this one so it was fate. We don't get to buy many clothes, since my mom has pretty much taken care of that for the first two years. ;) Of course, if it turns out to be a boy, he will look very funny in his little pink dress. ;)
