Yesterday, before she wrote the antibiotic prescription, she asked if I was breast-feeding. She saw the baby and I mentioned more than once that she was three weeks old. At the pharmacy, I held up the line of six people behind me (one of the pharmacists was handling the register, for some reason) to make sure that the antibiotic was safe for breast-feeding. Then I came home, and have taken three doses. Then I read the stupid warnings page that the pharmacy gives and noticed that it says that it is excreted in breast milk and breast-feeding is not recommended for infants less than one month old. I called and talked to the nurse at the clinic, who clearly thought I was a dork for calling because lots of people take this while breast-feeding, but she's going to talk to the doctor who delivered Evelyn and call me back. I have this strong feeling that he's going to say not to worry about it, but why would it go to the bother of saying that if it wasn't true? I am just a little frustrated because I know that no matter what the doctor says, I'm going to be forced to worry about it. Bah, humbug. Update: he says that the American Academy of Pediatrics says that it's fine for breast-feeding and he knows of nothing else that would be a problem. If I want to wait on my culture to come back before taking any more, I'm welcome to do so. The nurse says that lots of post-partum patients take this antibiotic (it's Macrobid, btw) and she also thinks it's perfectly fine. Two doctors, a nurse and a pharmacist are telling me that it's okay, that should be enough, right?

I guess I should point out that I really have no intention of trying to not write about the baby constantly. I don't have the slightest problem with the whole mommy blog genre, and my whole thing here has been to write about what is going on in my life and that pretty much is all about Evelyn at the moment. I assume that you would have figured that out by now since I didn't try not to write about pregnancy all that much, either. I hope that doesn't bother anyone. I am pretty sure that most of you are okay with it anyway.

Now, about the color and texture of my daughter's poo.... just kidding! No poo stories! At least not yet, no promises on that one. :)

But, on a related note, I have racked up some good karma this past week. First, we went to K-Mart and bought two hand towels. We had a lot of clunky things in the buggy, so when we got to the car, I thought it was pretty odd that the towels hadn't been put in the bag, but were just laying in the cart still. I checked my receipt when we got home, and found that we hadn't actually paid for them, either. I am all ethical and shit, so I decide that we must take those back. I was originally going to just go pay for them but then decided that I didn't want them because they had a flaw in them.. not that this is an important part of the story. I digress. Again! Anyway, a couple of days after buying the towels, I place an order for more diapers. I ordered six of the fluffy cute ones we've been using, and two of a different type just to try them out. They arrive two days later, and I find that... they sent me my six fluffy cute ones, and twelve of the experimental ones, or.. ten diapers too many. I email them to let them know that they made a mistake, and they're going to send me a return label for six of them, but I get to keep four for free. So, there you have it. It pays to do the right thing. Of course, the ones I got for free are much less fancy and neat than the others, and also less expensive--six bucks each--but still. FREE. You can't beat free.

Miss Crankypants kept me up from twelve until two this morning, and she got to experience her first taste of mylicon drops. She loved it. It did calm her down for a little while, but I'm not sure it really helped or if she just enjoyed the snack. She didn't fall asleep until I gave her a pacifier. I think that M and my mom have won this one. Ugly they may be, but she does seem to enjoy it these days. I kind of have to watch her on the feeding thing, so it is convenient. I would gladly feed her as much as she wants, but she will eat until she is sick, and then she will scream and spit up vast quantites of curdled milk, and then no one is happy. I should note that she is gaining weight very well, so I'm not worried that she's not eating enough. It may not help that she eats pretty quickly for a breastfed baby, I think. My milk supply is.. eager. ;)

I have started my Harry Potter re-read, so I think I should go settle in on the couch with a book and await my fresh homemade potato chips. (My husband is hot, and also very, very nice to me.) This is the first time I've re-read HP. My tendency to read series again before a new novel is released is one reason I have a problem with reading fantasy too much. It drives me crazy to read a new book in a series when I don't remember what was going on previously. I re-read lots of books, though. Forgetting the details makes it much more fun than you would think...
