A short note to celebrate one month.

Dear Evelyn,

You are one month old today! Happy birthday, little girl!

First of all, welcome to the world! I enjoyed being pregnant with you so very much, even though (let's be honest) it was extremely uncomfortable most of the time. One day you might have a baby of your own and then you might understand how wonderful it feels to carry your baby around inside of you, and I hope you remember that your mommy felt the same way when she carried you. It's so nice to see your face, though, and to hold you in my arms instead of my belly. (You were, I must admit, easier to take care of then, though.) You are a beautiful, beautiful baby and we are so glad that you're finally here.

Your daddy put it well yesterday. He came into the room while I was feeding you and said, in an extremely disgruntled tone, that it was so hard not to use words like "miracle" to describe you, and those words are so overused. But when you look up at us and smile--even if it isn't a "real" smile--there just really are no better words. You are.
