sunday night
Aug. 5th, 2007 10:58 pmM just came in to tell me that I am supposed to have fun on my time to myself, not clip coupons. Every so often, I get the urge to do the coupon thing and guess what? I never, ever remember to use them. I don't know why I bother, really. I guess posting in my journal counts as fun. The enthusiasm overwhelms me, clearly.
Yesterday was a very, very HOT day, and we were just dumb enough to go out in it. Every year, there's this gigantic yard sale that runs something stupid like 500 miles along route 127, which conveniently runs through the town we're in. My parents came down on Friday night and spent the night, and we were up early the next morning to go check out some hot deals on hot junk. Hot deals as in cheap prices, hot junk as in sun-warmed items of a dubiously useful nature. We actually scored pretty well yesterday, for once, because now we have that most useful of yard sale shopping item -- a baby. You can get lots of cheap stuff for babies at yard sales! It might be a bit of trouble to clean them up but still! Cheap! We ended up with a bunch of toys, some clothes (for a grand total of $2.50, she now has two new outfits and three pairs of shorts and pants), a tripod, a game that I don't really recognize but was cute so here's hoping Google knows what it is, and a Boppy. I never did get around to either buying or sewing a Boppy-like pillow. As it turns out, I don't particularly care for it anyway, but she seems to like reclining in it, so it's still okay. She stayed in the car all morning, which was nice. One of the four of us stayed in the car with us while the others shopped. Even with the car running, it was getting pretty hot back there, so I insisted that we go home at noon to regroup. She was still asleep, but it was past time for her to eat. After lunch, we tried to go back out again, but she was just miserable and hot and flushed, so we threw in the towel and went grocery shopping instead. She liked that much better.
She's been exceptionally cute lately. I don't know why I'm saying exceptionally, since really, the exceptional thing is that she's always so cute. ;) Yes, I know. New parents are obnoxious. Anyway, she has recently learned how to really grab stuff. She's not GOOD at it yet, but you can see that she is concentrating on it, and her little hand will move toward whatever she's looking at. The first great example of her doing this was when my mom was holding her on Friday night. My mom wears a cross necklace most of the time, and Evelyn has liked it since she was one day old. She grabbed it on Friday, completely on purpose! At this rate, she'll be curing cancer by next week!
Maybe the best thing, though, was when she was laying on the bathroom counter on the changing mat later the next night. Mom, M and I were standing there talking, and she was looking around, content to just lay there--it's one of her favorite places. The three of us started laughing, and she looked up at us and started laughing too. Big, belly laughs--it was totally a social interaction, and oh so sweet.
I have other things to talk about, but I don't have the time or energy for it right now. I am hungry, itching--my skin really hates me, did you know that?, and sleepy, and I have a busy week ahead of me, so I am off to bed before E decides it's time to wake up and play.
