Evelyn has been asleep for four and a half hours. I was hoping for an hour when I put her down because she slept until 9:45! I am not sure what is up with that. It's nice but for the last two hours I have been sure that I wouldn't have time to do whatever it is that I was about to start doing. I am learning to get started on things even if I think I won't have time to finish, though, because the girl is constantly surprising me in that regard! Speaking of which, she might be teething. She has the classic symptoms of it: drooling, chewing on her hands all of a sudden, irritability, occasionally seeming to be in pain for no discernible reason, and oh yeah, there's a hard white bump coming up on her gums. I hesitate to actually call it teething for certain, though, because I am really not so sure that the hard white bump is actually a tooth. It's not one of the front teeth, which I understand usually come in first, and it's kind of not centered on the gum. On the other hand, Boyo and I have not blessed her with superior teeth genes. Sorry, baby girl. Oh! And she rolled over onto her belly on Wednesday! That really made her mad but she really enjoyed being on her side while she was accomplishing it.

My cousin Brad is doing okay, from all recent reports. He is in a lot of pain and is a bit surly about being forced to do things that hurt.. no big surprise there. He has no memory of me coming to visit him on Saturday, apparently. That's fine with me because the less he remembers about that day, the happier he will be, I"m sure. He looked really terrible. I forgot to mention that he also broke two bones in his back, and one in his face and one in his nose--I thought that was the same one. That was apparently not a huge deal, though he'll have pain from it. At least he's not paralyzed or dead, though, so as far as breaking one's back goes.. geez. I cannot get over just how lucky he was. When my dad called me to tell me he fell, I casually said, "but he'll be alright, won't he?" because I just couldn't imagine it being otherwise. My dad sort of hesitated and then said that he was hurt really bad, and that's when I knew that things were pretty serious. They didn't know much at all right then, so when he hung up and called me back three minutes later, I was terrified to answer the phone. There's usually not enough time for anything good to happen within three minutes, you know? But in this case, the nurse had come out to give an update, so it WAS good news, thankfully.

Let's see, what else is new? Last week was pretty crummy and I am really hoping nothing exciting happens this week. Oh, I guess I could mention that M is now doing freelance work for Google! I didn't want to write about that until he officially got the job (last week) but he's been working at that this week in between two nights spent at my parents, a funeral and a hospital visiting and a Midsommar celebration in August. That was also nice, and Evelyn was again very well behaved. Lots of people complimented us on how cute she is and how good she is. Anyway, he is doing a website rating evaluation for Swedish language search queries. It's pretty cool, really, and hey, they will pay him for reading the internet! Can't get much better than that, can you?
