update on the tooth issue
Jan. 16th, 2008 07:58 pmI took Miss Evelyn to a pediatric dentist today about the paint chip lodged in her gum. As I said before, I discovered a blue fleck just under her bottom tooth a few minutes after I took a toy away from her because the paint was peeling off. (Don't even get me started on how I feel about teething toys that have peeling paint...) There are, of course, no pediatric dentists in town because this is only the freaking capitol city and we don't have things here. Not that I'm bitter. My mom was nice enough to come down to accompany me to Lexington (forty miles) so that made things easier. Anyway, the dentist was really good with her, very gentle. He used that shiny curved pick thing and slid it in under the gum and fished the piece out--it came apart so he had to do it in pieces. The whole thing was super-fast. He also admitted afterward that he had read the note on her chart saying that I thought it was a piece of paint from a toy and he had thought that did not sound very feasible, but yes, that certainly was what it was. So, they charged me $63 for a five-minute exam (but they gave us a free toothbrush! And a cheap plastic fish! So of course it is totally worth it!) but it's all good cause my kid is no longer sporting blue paint in her beautiful little smile. Btw, no one, including dentists, has ever heard of anything like that happening. Go figure, of course it's gonna happen to me.
Also, I fell while carrying her to the restroom at the restaurant. Eeek! I don't know what happened, exactly, but she was in my arms the whole time and I landed on my knees and leaned kind of against the wall, so she never even knew that anything was wrong. Scared me, though, and my knees are pretty sore. Interestingly, M's knee went out this morning, and he's limping around on it. What is it with the Yayer knees today?
Oh, and a woman pulled out in traffic and ran right into my grandfather's car this morning. He's fine (they said he was a bit shook up) but the car is totaled--the lady admitted that it was completely her fault, though. Meanwhile, my cousin (who wrecked on Thanksgiving) is finally buying her new (to her) vehicle today. I mention this only because it is rather circular, now that I think about it.
I would write more but I have got to go wake up my sleeping baby. This goes against everything I believe in, but she HAD to have a nap because every little thing that happened to her was clearly a grave insult and there were many tears and recriminations, and I retaliated by feeding and snuggling her until she slept. Mean Mommy! But now it has been over an hour and I would also like to sleep tonight, which will not happen if I do not get the child up. Oh, the intricacies of sleep when there is a baby involved! M is actually using insanely loud power tools in the basement, just under her room, and it is still not waking her up. Silly baby.
