staying where she's put
Jan. 31st, 2008 10:35 pmSince Evelyn really started crawling in the last week or so, I have had to do a lot of thinking about our routines. She has always loved to play in the floor. I mean, she REALLY loves it. I threw a blanket in the floor and she would play with her toys for the longest time. A while back, I "upgraded" her to a bed-sized quilt instead of a couple of baby blankets. Sunday night, we moved the coffee table out because it has REALLY sharp corners. Because of the large amount of empty space and the fact that she will NOT stay where she's put now, I have grudgingly taken away the blanket and let her have the run of the living room. There are still plenty of dangers (brick in front of fireplace, glass doors under television and.. really, everything around the TV, and then the dining room chairs are tippable and covered with sewing projects, etc.) It's been a little rough on me to accept that my baby is MOBILE, and I have to learn to keep an eye on her without expecting her to stay still. This sounds dumb but it was never something I could see until it happened. At the same time, I am consciously trying to relax on what she is allowed to do. I have watched her becoming more adept at this whole crawling venture, and I have wondered if I have delayed her progress with that by keeping her restrained to the approved blanket. She probably would have figured it out sooner if I hadn't stopped her from trying to explore her surroundings. I am not particularly upset about how she hasn't taken to mobility before this, mind you. I'm just saying.
However, she is now getting into everything and I am running after her constantly, so I have had to find a new way to keep her contained. Please don't call CPS.
