sewing and hippy tendencies and dinner
Apr. 17th, 2008 05:00 pmI engaged in a session of speed sewing this afternoon after Miss Baby went to sleep and completed a diaper cover (with gussets!) and I have time to spare. I am not the world's fastest sewer, and I flipping hate fold-over elastic (kind of like bias tape, I think, only stretchy.) I also hate three-step zig-zags, and sewing gussets. However, I love looking at newly sewn gussets because they look pretty impressive, if I do say so myself. If you don't look too close. I also made a cover yesterday, so when they get washed, we should be in better shape. I finally sat down and made a list of the things that I needed to sew, and it is long. I wanted to get a little sewing for my own kid done before I start working on baby shower diapers for a couple of people. Hehe. My own kid. I have a kid! That still strikes me as strange.
New subject--free cloth grocery bags! First one--design a Kroger reusable bag and get a free bag here. Must have a Kroger's shopper card and a local Kroger. Also, answer this quiz and get a free Earthbound Farms reusable bag here. You have to get 9/10 correct.. it will be mailed to you in June or so. I must admit that I don't yet use reusable bags but I'd like to. Husband kind of thinks I'm a dirty hippie (his favorite phrase for me when I start getting out of control* on the crunchy thing) but we decided that we should give it a try and then promptly forgot about it. I so agree on principle, but in practice, it seems kind of a pain since no one around here does that kind of stuff. We've sorta settled on reusing and recycling the plastic bags, and avoiding them when possible.
And there she's awake. I really can't believe she slept as long as she did. It was nice. You know what else is nice? My husband will be cooking dinner tonight, and I don't have to. YAY! I really can't remember the last time that M cooked dinner for both of us without me being involved in the preparation or planning or at least some aspect of it. That's generally just fine because I don't mind cooking (again in theory...) and I am pickier than he is by far, but it's a really nice luxury now and then to have food just magically appear, isn't it? He's making barbecued chicken with this special BBQ sauce that one of his customers sent to him to try.
*He follows along with extreme grace on everything, but he draws the line at cloth toilet paper. *laugh* I am not totally sold myself but I have brought it up a few times in passing and he cuts me off before I even get started. At a certain point, he says, you are no longer crunchy; you are a dirty hippie--that's when he started calling me that. The line in the sand for him is family cloth. I must confess that I told my mom about it and we casually worked the conversation around to it in his presence so she could idly state that she thought it was a good idea. It's totally not my mom's sort of thing so I'm surprised he fell for it, but he jumped in right away to cut us off. Fun with boys!
