Since M had to work yesterday, today is our one and only weekend day. It was lovely! Sadly, it was also so short. We managed to pack a lot of good stuff into one day, which is nice. We actually packed some decent stuff into yesterday, too, but it's not the same as having two whole days to ourselves. He got out of work in time for lunch, and my parents came down as well, so we had a nice lunch out. My dad brought his truck and trailer. I think he intended to take care of our little tree problem, but in fact, he finally realized the true extent of the issue. Since we first got quotes for the tree to be cut down, he has been kind of muttering about how six hundred dollars is a lot of money and he would come help us cut it down when he had time. There were a few jokes about how they'd gladly do it for that amount too. Yeah. It was so good that they finally saw how big the stupid tree was, and he realized that there were a couple of logs left that were so big that nothing that he had, or anyone he knew had, would be big enough to cut through it. Would have been interesting to see them bring down the whole tree with a $10 chainsaw... Anyway, they loaded up both the truck and the trailer with a massive amount of firewood, so he did haul off a lot of stuff and we finally have a dent made in the yard cleanup project. Yay for parents! Yay for parents with trucks!

In news completely unrelated to parents or trucks, I opened a can of corn today and there was no liquid inside and the corn was clearly foul. I am still so grossed out. The can said to return it to Kroger (yeah, yeah, generic corn) if not satisfied but honestly, the thought of carrying a can of rotten vegetables back to the store made me squeamish. Maybe I should sue them instead, for mental anguish. I guess I will content myself with sending whiny emails to their customer service.

Speaking of customer service, I got pissed late last night and canceled one of M's credit cards in anger. We have had the thing for seven years, it gives no cash back and we almost never use it. (I have made an effort to use it about once every year or two to keep it active on our credit report.) They increase our credit limit constantly and call us begging for us to use it. It was actually great because it helped M build his credit in the US. No one else would give him a freaking card because he had no credit history. We were at Graceland and he signed up for their mailing list and they sent him a pre-approved card offer--worked out great for such an untrustworthy foreigner. Anyway, the details of why they made me angry are unimportant--largely because it is partially my fault. I called them last night and the girl was so unhelpful that I ended the call by supposedly canceling it. I say supposedly because the whole thing was really weird. She said she would close it but it strikes me as strange that she would do that when there was still a balance (of $1.50, hence the phone call) on the account, and she didn't really say anything about the whole process other than that she would close it for me. No verification, nothing. I've never canceled any account without them pleading with us to keep it open. I am just a secondary user on the account, too, and the only info they wanted from me was the primary birthdate at the beginning of the call. M is planning on calling to mess with them in a few days because his wife canceled his credit card without his authorization. *halo* Eh, it probably doesn't matter to them but it'll be fun for us to bug them with our "problems".

Yeah, that's us. We were talking this evening about how we just didn't feel like we had the time to sit around watching television in the evenings... but boy, do we ever have time to play stupid phone games with credit card companies. Go team Yayer!
