I have sort of forgotten how to relax. When I am awake and not being the Official Caretaker, I feel like I can't do anything that is purely for fun. I mean, I do a lot of random things during the day that are relaxing, but sometimes it would be nice to sit here and play the Sims or something. My brain is teh dumb sometimes. It comes up with these rules that I don't actually agree with.

My parents came down today because there was this auction with sealed bids and my dad was going to bid on a vehicle. He sadly did not win the bid, but maybe next time. I don't really understand the whole sealed bid auction thing. It looks to me like you would make more money if you allowed people to just bid like normal. I don't know. I am not up on the ins and out of the auction world. I have been to a few as an adult that were mildly entertaining, but my brother and I used to H A T E it when my parents would drag us to an auction. We would whine and plead and tell them that we had been good, please don't punish us. We were perhaps a bit dramatic about the whole thing, who would ever have imagined? It's not like we went often but it was so boring when we did go. M and I bought some cool ugly lamps at an auction when we were first married. They were $3 each and they don't fit in our house right now, which is kind of sad. They're awful in a great sort of way. And that is all I really have to say about auctions, which is one entire paragraph more than I thought I had to say about them when I started writing this post.

Right now M is in the kitchen, making me a happy, happy woman. He is slicing potatoes for homemade potato chips in the oven. Here is the recipe. Try it. Yummy. We usually sprinkle a little bit of cheese (parmesan or cheddar) on top. We ate cereal for dinner so we can kind of afford the calories tonight, plus the dorky one went to bed early and we actually have time for it for once. I can't wait for them to be done.

We put our tree up this weekend and decorated it last night. We bought a new, smaller tree, because our old one is massive and we couldn't imagine keeping a toddler away from it for three whole weeks. This one is sitting on a tall chest of drawers, which we moved to a corner of the dining room in a dramatic fashion. She could reach up and grab the skirt and rip the whole thing off the table but I am really just hoping that she won't. She did actually try to plug the tree in this morning, though. What, you don't let your small children play with electricity? Pshaw.

Yesterday, Evelyn composed an ode to my breast. She cupped it in her hands as she leaned in for a snack, and then pulled away long enough to stare lovingly at it and say, "OH MY NUMMY NUMMIES!" It was pretty rocking hilarious. She calls it nummy nummy. We really don't know why because we didn't teach her that. She used to make the sign for milk when she was hungry, but then suddenly, it switched to nummy nummy. Water can also be nummy nummy, but it's less frequent. Oh, and something that strikes me as strange, speaking of signs.... several of her signs have suddenly made a comeback. She had sort of stopped using several of them. (She hung on to "cheese" for a long time, but when the Possums were here, I said that she would only sign cheese, not say it, and then I tried to get her to demonstrate how she always signed cheese. She looked at me like I was on some sort of mind-altering hallucinatory drug and said, "CHEEEEE". She hasn't made the sign for cheese again at all... at least, not until last week, when the other signs reappeared. She is suddenly signing several things that she had stopped signing because she learned to say them. I find that interesting. She hasn't seen any signing programs or anything. I wonder how those tiny little brains work, you know? What brought that back, all of a sudden?

Also funny? M was talking about painting a potential storage building, maybe a dark green. E piped up with her own choice on colors and said, "PIIIIIII[nk]! PIIIII! PIIIII!" Do you think maybe she has a lot of pink in her life? Can't imagine why.

Piiiii also means fish, pig or urinate. It's sort of a multi-purpose word.

Well... I think it's time to get back to work while I wait on my salty potato goodness. These lists won't write themselves...
