Dec. 22nd, 2008

Saturday: Homemade peanut brittle (in triplicate)

Sunday: Snickerdoodles (doubled)

Monday: Peanut butter balls* and O'Henry bars, also: barbecued ribs for dinner (a Christmas vacation surprise for my carnivorous husband, who is working today but has the rest of the week off)

Wednesday: broccoli casserole (prepped for Thursday, actually. Really, I should have stopped at Monday for this post but I was on a roll and I had my days mixed up and originally thought I was making this tomorrow. M has already lectured me, while I was planning food preparation this weekend, that he is going to want to eat every single day, and not just the days that I scheduled. Bah, humbug.)

*This isn't my recipe--mine is from my Mamaw, but this one is really similar. One pound of powdered sugar (instead of 3 or 4 cups) and I'm not positive if the tablespoon of Crisco is right (I haven't dipped them yet--they're hardening in the fridge--and I don't remember) but close.

Also, it is ASS cold outside today... M's desk thermometer says it's 21 degrees outside now, but it was 7 when I stupidly decided to go shopping this morning. I wanted a free hair dryer from Walgreens, which was crazy talk anyway because they were out of stock (of course) and so I consoled myself with free deodorant and then went off to do a spot of grocery shopping instead. Do you want to know something awesome? I got a 50 cent catalina (you know those coupons that print on a special machine at the register?) from Kroger recently and it expires Wednesday so I wanted to use it. Kroger doubles coupons up to fifty cents but it never even occured to me that this one would double. So, I used a .45 coupon on a .95 item (yeast) two weeks ago, which made the packet of yeast a nickle, and then it produced a one dollar catalina. The even better part is that I actually forgot to use it after making a special trip there this morning, so I went back and picked up a pack of Goody's hair bands, which were clearanced at $2.74, plus I had a $2 coupon and a $1 e-coupon on my store card, making them a profit of $.26, right? But! The hair bands scanned at $5.49 so they gave me that money back at the customer service desk, plus I had already used $3 in coupons when ringing it up. I mean, not that I am a coupon scammer but it just worked out that way. Freeness is goodness but overage is bliss. (Oh, four packs of free toilet paper today too, also with overage.)

And now I have to go wake up my dorko baby because she really really needs to be able to go to bed at a decent time tonight because SANTA is coming to our house tonight and I hear it might take him a little while to put her present together after he gets it down the chimney. Also, I still have a pile of gifts to wrap while Santa (oops, accidentally typed Satan there and that is so not what I meant to say) works on that. But we will be able to leave plenty of baked goods for the jolly old man at least! :)
