Jan. 5th, 2009 09:49 pmWe were teetering on the edge of taking Evelyn to the ER last night because of this stupid stomach flu. I had been feeling (mostly) better, and though she was still throwing up a lot, she did not seem to be dehydrated or anything, so we figured that it could wait until this morning to call a doctor. When she woke up from her second nap (two naps a day is a rarity for her in itself), she pretty much just laid in our laps, listlessly. I mean, on one hand, you hate to take your kid to the doctor if they don't need to be seen, especially to the ER and especially to our ER, the very one where I once sat for seven hours and still didn't see a medical professional--but not to worry, the guy having the heart attack only had to wait for 25 minutes! On the other hand... better safe than sorry, etc. Anyway, we were sort of leaning towards bringing her in when I made one last effort to engage her in the real world again, and sat her in the floor to work a puzzle with me. After a few minutes, she was all "kitty-cat!" and "naaaake!" and whooping the puzzle's flat ass with her mad skillz, yo. (I am so, so sorry for that last sentence. I don't know where it came from. I don't even know what it means.) Then she adjourned to the kitchen, where she ate most of a banana... her first real food of the weekend... and pointed at the number 2 on her plate and said "TWO!" Funny how half an hour earlier, we were taking her to the hospital for her lethargy and then suddenly she had perked up and learned to count.
And better yet... there has been no puke since. Knock on wood. She is just now waking up from her nap, so I am just praying that still holds true. She is talking about piangba very sweetly over the monitor so I am assuming she is still fine. No, I have no idea what piangba is, but she seems to think highly of it.
** pausing for the rest of the day to occur, I have now finished putting her to bed **
One more messy incident this evening (thought we were done..sigh) and she still isn't really eating (but nursing like mad). I know that this isn't interesting so I should shut up but we've just been pretty much consumed with nothing but the sickness of late, so there isn't much else to talk about. Today is my mom's birthday and I had this big plan of sneaking in on her to spend the day, but that obviously didn't happen. It all comes back to the same thing, here.
