days go by and still i think of you
May. 6th, 2009 10:30 pmI just stood up and banged my head but good on a glass cabinet door. The stupid thing is that I had been thinking must-be-careful-not-to-hit-head the whole time, and then I did it anyway. And then, I kind of had a little vision bobble in the opposite eye, which kind of freaked me out but then I decided it was just a random eyelash thing, and then I got dizzy standing up talking to M. The trouble is that when you are all feeling sorry for yourself over little traumas like these, it is easy to find things to feel sorry about. I am 99.7% sure that I am perfectly fine and unlikely to suffer lasting effects from this terrible ordeal (ahem) but then again, do I suddenly feel nauseous, or maybe itchy, or...?
So anyway. It has been a busy week here, though I so far have little to show for it. I went out today to do some shopping, determined to get all the sales shoppings done today so I don't have to go out for that again this week. Tomorrow and Friday will need to be dedicated house straightening days. Things take so LONG when one is doing them with a small child in tow! It is just unbelievable how hard it is to straighten up the house with Evie around. Mainly this is because she is offended by her toys being put neatly away, and has a tendency to follow me around, dumping things out immediately after they have been put up. Also, there are all these other random household maintenance tasks, like laundry and cooking, that do not fall under the heading of party prep but yet, still need done. Really annoying.
It is not just Evelyn's party that we will be doing this weekend, though! My parents are coming down on Saturday and we are going to be getting a storage building for the backyard! Yay for no lawn mower in the garage! The gas smell can be obnoxious, and also, cluttered. My dad is even buying the thing (with our credit card, but physically doing the purchasing) and bringing it all the way here for us. So, the menfolk will be busy with that much of the day and will spend any remaining time loading up tree parts, probably. Meanwhile, my mom and maybe my niece will also be here, and... I don't know how much actual working time I'll have that day after all. I had been planning on having M watch the baby much of the day so I could actually get things put together in peace but... in theory my mom will be more than happy to fulfill that same duty but I don't know how it will pan out. She also really wants to help me with things and she is fantastic at organizing and stuff like that, but then we're back to the same problem of a toddler trying to help too. Hi, and welcome to the most pointless paragraph ever!
You know that new camera I mentioned? It is totally broken. It was a refurb, and apparently they did not so much refurbish it as they did resell it. Hassle hassle hassle. It worked for four pictures and then it died a horrible death.
Okay, here's something to make you laugh. Yesterday, Evelyn was sitting on the couch, and I asked her if she needed to go pee. She said, "No. Can't*." Then she paused for a moment. "Fart. Maybe fart." *giggle* I laughed so hard that monkeys flew out of my ears. Or, maybe not, but it was a near thing. Kids are entertaining, sometimes.
*Can't is her new favorite thing to tell me. I have been trying to explain to her that she is not actually using this word properly, but she ignores me. It usually means "I don't want to." It's really funny the first sixteen times of the day but after that it begins to get a little old.
Now that I have lived with M for many years, I feel bloody special that I used to receive daily emails from him. He is awful at emailing people. We just had a conversation about this and I pointed out that he really, really should maintain a little better contact with his best friend in Sweden. I told him that he should send him an email, RIGHT NOW. He nodded and said, "yeah. I really should." And then he sat there for ten more seconds and then got up to go work on the broken hallway light.
Oh, the broken hallway light! That was also a funny thing. Last week, Evelyn was chattering away and she said, "light broke" a few times. I honestly had no idea what she was talking about and I thought she was just doing the weird baby thing and forgot all about it until the next day, when I walked down the hallyway and happened to look up and see... the hallway light dangling from the ceiling. M said that he had heard it fall one morning but hadn't known what it was. It's a good thing that we have one observant human being in this household. It will be even better when she has enough words to say "The light in the hallway is broken, mommy. Could you please have the male parental unit please reattach it to the ceiling and reinforce it so that it doesn't happen again, okay? It disturbs my sensibilities this way."
It might be a little while before we get that level of vocabulary... at least a week or two.
And on that note, I guess I'd better get back to cleaning off my desk. It is really sad when my desk is more cluttered than M's, which it has been for the last few months. I must get to work on that. :)
