tired but happy
Jul. 1st, 2009 11:31 pmThis has been a really, really great week.
M's employer basically forces almost everyone to take a week of vacation during the July 4th week. M was "lucky" enough to get to work last year (they fight over the honors of working that week, since the winners get to take their vacation whenever they want) so there was no use in even requesting a different week for us. It's not a big deal anyway, except that we may or may not have one or two sets of Swedish visitors this fall (possibly not at all, who knows? not us) and therefore, M may or may not have to work. He does get two weeks but.. well. Anyway. I suppose it's enough to say that he's on vacation without a dissertation on why.
We have been having so much fun! First, we had a regular weekend. We went to a few yard sales, and we bought Evie an adorable leather recliner for $2. That made me happy because we almost bought her one at full price once. It's so cute. And then we went to the Scandinavian Heritage Society's Midsummer event. It took both M and me about five minutes just not trying to remember what it was that we did on Saturday after Evelyn's nap and we couldn't figure out what the heck we did, until I finally remembered.. duh. And then M insisted that I post pictures from said event into this post, and I am willing and all, but it is after eleven and I am really tired so I guess I can't write about that tonight. It was fun, more later.
Monday, we drove up to Jungle Jim's (international grocery store) and IKEA. Yay IKEA! I know it's a small thing but the closest one to us was Chicago until this one in Ohio opened last year. It's a two hour drive now (as opposed to say, eight). We've really wanted to go for the last year but we never quite got around to it. It's easy to talk yourself out of traveling with a small child, I've found, especially if one is a natural procrastinator. It was great fun, though, and we want to go back soon.
Other than that, we have mainly spent the week at home. It's been so lovely. We go places when we want to and we stay home when we don't. I wish vacation would last for a lot longer!
