random nonsense
Aug. 4th, 2009 09:13 amPredictability is just not Evie's thing. I was all expecting her to be happy and content yesterday, what with all the engaging, enriching activities we were doing together. (play-doh, counting, laundry-helping (which she likes), building blocks, etc.) And yet, she turned into a tiny terror yesterday afternoon in spite of all my good-mom tendencies. I hate it when they do that. If it was on a day when I was kind of ignoring her in favor of getting stuff done, or dragging her all over town shopping (again) I could at least understand it, even if it drove me crazy. But when you are following them around, letting them do what they want while you play with them more than usual, then it is just completely unfair. Then she woke up in the middle of the night (pretty rare now) and woke up early, and is now starting the day on a demanding note like yesterday. It's going to be a super-fun day!
Diego is slightly less annoying than Dora, but she likes Dora better. Of course.
Let's see, what else can I write about besides griping about my sweet, sweet baby? She really is sweet. Just sometimes she drives me crazy, in much the same way that any kid drives its parents crazy. Last night, M had to take over baby duty (he is second-line on putting her to sleep--the heavy guns, so to speak) and she sat there saying, "whee doggies" over and over in a futile attempt to stay awake. 239 times. Oh, wait, that is more griping. How about some funnies? Sunday night during bath time, she is sitting there and she asks me, "that is?" which is how she asks what something is. So I look in to see what she's talking about and say, "that looks like a washcloth in a cup, Evelyn." And she says, "DUUHHH." hahah. I didn't know whether to laugh at her for being funny and using that word in context, or if I should perhaps slap myself in the head for teaching her that word.
(Mommy, I'm not tired but I'm just going to climb up here beside you and cover myself up with a blankie, okay?)
M and I had a pretty good weekend.. we stayed home and had no company. We like going places and seeing people, but we've been pretty busy (for us) lately, so it was so nice to have a break. We did a little light shopping and we played with the baby a lot. Is it time that I stopped calling her the baby? I mean, she's over two by now. I also did my weekly drugstore shopping run. After the first yard sale, when it became clear that it was actually a profitable venture, I started going alone on the weekends, and it works out so well. I still go shopping during the week with the baby, but I have less to do and it's less urgent, since I do the most important runs on Sunday morning. Plus, we all think it's really important that M and Evie have some time together without me sometimes too. They have fun. I have fun. Win win!
I want some Bendaroos.
I keep running out of time in the evenings to post after I get the kidlet asleep, or I am just too tired to think of anything to say. (One might argue that I couldn't think of anything to say in the morning today either, but then one might get themselves bopped with a stick.) I should try to write more during the day, is what I'm thinking. We'll see if it sticks though. :)
