empty house

Evelyn is spending the night with my parents. IT IS SO FREAKY. The house is quiet and I don't have anyone keeping me from doing whatever I want to do, but it is just so strange that I can barely stand myself. I have not been apart from her for longer than about four hours since she was born. I think if my parents lived in the same town as we do, it would have happened long before now, but there is always that risk that she gets upset and wants Mommy to come home, and it will be a very long ninety minutes (plus some) in the middle of the night for everyone if that happens. And, I really think she will be fine. She loves being with my mom and dad. It's just that... I miss her, darn it. She's pesky sometimes but she's mine and I love her and why in the world did I agree to this again?

But, other than that vague sense of wrongness, it's lovely. We are going to enjoy the heck out of it because times like these do not come very often. We've been meaning to give this a try for a little while, but I realized this week that this would be a good time. We're going up tomorrow night anyway, as we're having a yard sale Friday and Saturday.

*pause*

All is well and she is asleep. So happy that worked out well for her. She did ask for Mommy and wanted to "go to Evie's house" but she was otherwise cool with the whole thing.

My mother-in-law got accosted in traffic recently. Some guy tried to cut her off and she refused to let him, so he squeezed in behind her and then passed her when he got a chance, slammed on his brakes in front of her, and then got out of the car, and came back to yell "Jävla hora! Jävla hora!Jävla hora!" at her through her closed window for TWO FULL MINUTES. (This is the approximate Swedish equivalent of "fucking whore", for those of you who happen not to speak Swedish.) She was blocked in and unable to get away from him, but I guess he finally left? Would you like to know the strangest part of the whole thing? There were three women in the car with him, and none of them bothered to turn around and watch. And no, this man was not... how should I put this? He was not a native Swede, and neither were his companions.

M and I have been watching House on DVD. We are a total of three episodes into it (counting the pilot) and it is such a good show thus far. Unfortunately, we can only watch it when Evelyn isn't awake (or home, as the case now stands) because it Freaks Her Out big-time. She's such a strange kid. Can't imagine where she gets that from.
