I woke up completely exhausted this morning, but incredibly relieved to be awake. Ev woke up crying for Mommy several times during the night, and the last required me to actually go get her since she didn't fall asleep right away. So in between waking up for the crying baby, I had nightmares all night long. YAY. I don't do the nightmare thing that often (less now than ever before, now that I think about it) so having three in one night seems unfair. Someone was breaking into my house* was the first and worst one in terms of that panicked feeling, and then there was another one after I went back to bed about how M and I had split up but were still halfway seeing each other (??) and I (and I think he) both really wanted to get back together but I was terrified to bring it up because I was afraid we'd lose the half-assed relationship we currently had. THAT one culminated in a lot of icy driving conditions and ultimately Evelyn running out in the road and getting run over. So umm. Yeah. It was a rough night. I am still pretty tired now but at least I'm not asleep.
*I have been afraid of this for years and years. Actually, I don't remember ever not being afraid of this. After I woke up and realized it was a dream, I rolled over and worried about home invasion for a while, and finally decided that if someone was trying to break into my house via the front (the way they were in the dream) then my best course of action would be to grab Evie and run for the basement, where I can lock that door from the inside. It's a pretty flimsy latch lock that is just on there so M can lock it from that side when he's down there to keep small children from opening the door, so I'm fully aware that if they're chasing me then I am not going to be secure down there or anything, but it'd buy me a little time. THEN I could run down the stairs and go out the door to the backyard, and run over to the fence, up to where there are trees to hide me a little, and then cross the fence and run up behind the neighbor's shop/garage and garden and then on to their back door, where I can request assistance. So I came up with a plan, and felt a little better about life, and finally was able to go back to sleep after I woke M up for nightmare comfort. :) This morning, I told him all about my cunning robbery escape plan, and he kind of smirks at me and points out that it's going to take a bad guy a lot less time to break down the basement door than it is for me to OPEN the outside basement door (it has specialty locking mechanisms.) WHY DID YOU NEED TO TELL ME THAT? WHAT WAS THE POINT OF THIS INFORMATION? Is it not good enough to let me feel a little better about my unlikely escape plan in an unlikely scenario? Why did he have to ruin it for me? (And besides, part of my basement plan was a hope that if I could get into the basement before they realized where I went, I'd buy even more time because they wouldn't know where to look for me. SO THERE.)
And right now it is naptime and my eyelids are veeery heavy. But napping while she's asleep is just not my style. I could maybe go for some over-my-daiily-quota caffeine though.
Anyway!
We had a yard sale on Saturday and did pretty well. We sold more at this sale (with rather the dregs of merchandise we had left from the last sale) than we did at the first one we had back in May, the one that inspired me to actually pursue this. I have now sold well over three thousand dollars worth of stuff in four yard sales plus a few random sales, which is pretty freaking fantastic. I mean, added to the other sideline businesses of stuff like bank bonuses (have made $700 from Chase in the last four months) and some freelancey things I do for M's company and rebates and all that and the actual savings on things that I buy, it's like having a part time job without the cost of daycare. Awesome. And I have much more and much better stuff than we had before. PLUS, it's fun.
In any case, we made some money (not quite $400 but close) and cleared out some STUFF, which is great because I am now going to unpack everything in the little room, I think, if at all possible, whereas most of my stuff has been in boxes at my parents all summer long) and also, proved that it is actually viable to do sales here. The one and only yard sale (with regular old stuff) that we've had here before was kind of not worth the trouble, but we were told it was a bad weekend for yard sales due to a festival in town.
Let's see, what else? I spent all day on Thursday cleaning my house and preparing for the sale, and then E and I went shopping on Friday with K, my couponing friend. We had a great time. :) We both got free $10 gift cards to the mall as part of a promotion they were doing, so we spent that much in gas to get there in order to take advantage of it. haha. But it was fun! And I got free stuff! But that is sort of not unique these days. (Having said that, there's a $10/$10 Things Remembered coupon out there somewhere that expires 9/30. Google it and try it out if you're going to the mall. I got a free picture frame, didn't even have to pay tax.) We had both kids with us (her son is 13 months old) and that was, of course, a lot of work but they were pretty well-behaved. Good times. I am going to be so sad when they move!
That's about all that's going on with us. We're tackling a cleanup the basement project, and will be reorganizing and sorting through some old junk. That is kind of fun in a geeky, hard work sort of way. I am about to tackle a stockpile room cleaning/organization project. I wanted to do a quickie tiny laundry room improvement project, too, and I even obtained the paint (yeah, free) for it but then we went in there and realized that it is going to be a pain to paint, as it will involve unhooking things and doing things with poorly-hung cabinets, so we'll see when that gets done. I think a lot of people get stuff done in the summer when the weather is nice,, but M and I are lazy in the summer and seem to get back on track in the fall. Hope we can keep at it, and also I kind of hope we can continue talking ourselves out of starting on the bathroom because that is going to be one huge expensive mess. Sometimes I wish we were the sort of people who called people when it was time to do stuff like this, since we are clearly the sort who start big projects and then procrastinate on getting them finished.:)
And now I am almost out of time before nap is over and I still need to write an email and try to post something at the other blog. My dad kind of nags me a little when I don't (isn't that sweet?)
