Jul. 22nd, 2010 10:31 pmLast fall sometime, I tried to switch to satellite from cable, but was gravely disappointed when the guy came out and said that we had too many trees to get a signal. I called the other big company and asked them if that would definitely mean that their service wouldn't work, too, and they said it might. So, I procrastinated for months and finally got around to scheduling them to come out and try to install it. They came today and... it worked! I am shocked, really shocked, especially since, after an hour, the guy said that he couldn't find a signal but he might call another guy to come take a look and see if he could find a place for it. I didn't even really expect that to happen. The other guy showed up a couple of hours later, walked around for about five minutes and then called me outside to show me where it would go and said that the first guy would come back and install it later today. I was skeptical later, because it started pouring the rain. WHILE it was pouring rain, WITH lightning flashing, the first guy came back and started working. It took like four hours and a LOT of conversation but.. done. Pretty cool! I have never had DVR before and have always really wanted it. I just couldn't justify paying for it because with our cheapo non-digital cable package, it would have been a substantial monthly price increase.
So anyway! Love the smell of new hardware.
In other new hardware news, I have now had my book reader for a month and I offically L-O-V-E it. I wasn't sure I would. I was afraid it would be just another gadget that I didn't use after the glow wore off, or that I would hate reading on the screen rather than having a solid book in my hand. It is fantastic. I adore it. I will marry it and have its digital babies. Well, I won't actually do that last one because well, that was kind of a stupid thing to say. For one thing, the logical "digital baby" of a book reader would clearly have to be... well, a book, right? And apparently that would mean that I was incredibly promiscuous, judging by the number of books I have in my queue. And fertile and really, don't make me laugh on THAT one.
Not entirely sure where all that came from, and also, what I am high on. In summary: love my book reader. I can use it mostly handsfree, I can carry around an entire library, it's faster to read from... all the good stuff. I had it on while drying my hair yesterday. That was pleasant.
My paternal grandfather is turning 90 this weekend and suddenly they are talking about a birthday event and yeah. Of course, we need/want to go to that. It's just... bad timing, in a way. Last weekend was our first weekend after we returned home, and we spent it with my family. This was supposed to be our weekend at home and I was really looking forward to it. There's a reunion on Sunday that we were going to quietly skip, but now since we're going to be part of the way up there ANYWAY, it wouldn't go over well to miss it. Next weekend, there's been talk of a yard sale that we're supposed to be involved with, and the weekend after that we'll be camping with them. I think we're going to try to extricate ourself from the yard sale, because we're not prepared anyway. I want to DO all these things, I just wish that we could have a little bit of time at home, too. By the time M gets home, we eat dinner, he plays with Evie and then she gets a bath/sent to bed... it's usually pretty late.
As I have been falling asleep in my chair for the last half hour, might as well make it official and head to bed. Nightie night.
